So I'm new with this topic business, which section does this topic go into? I don't know. And I used the search.

Alright so, to do a hatefull yet beneficial action fully, you need motivation.
Now wait a second you topic-poopers you, before you start grinning because you're gonna say "This topic fails!" at last, think about it, and think about these questions:

How do you motivate yourself to study? A mere example, it's not about studying.
How do you motivate yourself to do any of those things that our parents said were good for us but we hate?
Does the prize motivate you? Do the people around you motivate you? Does pain motivate you? Do you motivate yourself by any other means? What makes you push yourself over the limit?

These questions are not to be answered in context and the reason I ask them is really no other than I don't understand the whole motivation concept, and I don't think I've worked hard for indirect benefits once in my entire life, I work in crap jobs because I gotta eat, I don't study, I'm not much of an academic, even though I do like knowledge, I find studying and stuffing them into my head too troublesome. I do what I want and don't do what I don't want to do, which isn't the way the world is supposed to go, apparently.
This topic isn't about me, as much as I hate to, I'm using myself as an example no more. The topic is about motivation and why anyone should do anything they don't like to do.

If you want to share an opinion, by all means go ahead.
Hopefully this won't turn into another shitfest and stay on civilized levels.
If this is gonna get locked I don't really care, I'm not seeking answers I'm just in a state of bored wonder.

Eh.
Let's see well what motivates me for studying is the fact that if I don't make top grades
then I won't get into a good university then med school and I LOVE making better grades than others.
It's a feeling of satisfaction and bliss.

Sometimes I do need prizes though, lol I get bored thus I begin to slack.
:] Another thing that motivates me is jealousy like when ever someone gets a higher grade
I study even more.
Nice topic mate.

So punishment (no medschool) is a motivation, supiriority and jealousy (better grades) is too.
This looks promising. I'll put it in mind.

It doesn't sound stupid, whatever works for you.
I've been in a non-giving-a-shit-about-anyone-or-anything set of mind for a very long time, says my mother.
The whole set of mind works for me, but apparently I shouldn't be that way, I don't think I'm planning to change anytime soon, I just find fun in figuring stuff out, about me, or the world or anything.
What do I do to motivate myself? Nothing. I work out because I like the burn after I'm done, I play the guitar because I like it, some people would call that work, but is it? Or is it something I enjoy doing?

I don't like talking alot, but I had to cover every side of the story just incase someone likes to go like OH THIS IS A PERSONAL THREAD! MOTIVATION! WHATS THAT! and, alot more of that shit we see everyday here.
And offcourse give people questions to think of answers for.

well sometimes pressure motivates me. no really. last year. i failed a like 2 quizzes and a test and that motivated me to do everything from extra credit to rewriting a paper atleast 3 times. yes that pressure made me stride to become a better person. but no really i am a lazy fuck. i need a lot of motivation but when it comes to sport all i need is a person to be better then me and i work my ass off to be better than him TIMES 2

I don't really study.. so far i have been naturally good at test-taking and haven't found the need, nor does it help me. For other bothers in life such as obligations I have to people i simply look ahead of that to the coveted free time which I want. I'm not very passionate about much in life so i use that for pretty much everything. Though for what i DO love i am the epitome of "zeal"
