Horny single guys? Nah.
Its for guys straight out.
Every guy out there would LOVE to be surrounded by some bangin broads who will do what ever he wants at his leisure. No loli's though.

But them harems always usually end up in a love affair and someone diein though. Usually out of jealousy.

Been there, done that, lost the love of my life and here I am.

I don't think he'll be able to handle that much stress, one Haruhi is enough to give him a headache lol

My response to the topic in general -> Harem anime are aimed at a specific audience, namely adolescent males (I'm guessing around 15-27 < I just made these numbers up to be around what I think the ages are)
So yeah, harem anime will not be going anywhere anytime soon as long as there is demand from this group

And you can't really generalize the whole genre, not all of them focus on the ecchi fanservice girls all wanting one lucky guy, that's just the mainstream anime that becomes the stereotype we make for the harem genre

There are some anime that are really good in their own right (plot, character) and are of the harem genre

I really like harem ^^ its my favourite anime Genre cause almost all harem anime is so funy hee.... and the girls

It's one of my favorite genres too, and even then, I'm still picky about what harem anime I watch

i find most harems to be perverted, i dont mind watching them if they're funny and not over perverted.

I'm guessing you've watched Seitokai no Ichizon and Nisemonogatari/Bakemonogatari to name a few? These are pretty good without being heavily ecchi focused anime, more substance in terms of character and plot

no not really, i used to get tired of guys being indecisive in harems but the last 5 that i saw all had a conclusive ending where the guy picks someone, also most of the guys that i know that watch ecchi/harem anime have girlfriends

If harems are truly like they are anime, that would not be my dream. I hate all this fighting, and Im pretty decisive, so Im pretty sure that all the girls would hate me except for one, and that doesn't sound like a good idea
Most of these shows have fanservice cause it just fits, since its true more guys watch harems than girls. So what, its gonna happen, it shouldn't be that much of a surprise.
Harems are fun cause of the awkward comedy brought on by the main hero surrounded by his heroines. His indecisiveness allows for a 12-24 episode series, until the end where he either tells them he cant choose, or he loves one (although cant remember tons of times where the guy finally chose)

I can't stand harem anime. Sure, I'm a guy. I'd love to be surrounded by beautiful women who would do anything for me. Who wouldn't? Anime characters, that's who. It's either a guy who just wants them all to put their clothes back on and go away, or a hentai where he bangs them all, at the same time. I don't understand why there can be no inbetween. Why can't anime characters just behave like actual people?

I think a lot of it is because they can't have the main character actually chose someone, or its the end of the anime. Even when the main character does make a choice at the end (i.e., Shuffle), you have a good portion of the audience that is upset because it wasn't the choice they would have made.

It take good writing to balance not choosing someone throughout the series with believability and a good reason for the main character to not select one girl over the others. Frankly, in real life, that real reason would most often be indecision (i.e., pick one girl now and lose the others), but that isn't likely to endear the character to most viewers.

Another plot device is to have the main character oblivious/clueless, but many people have a problem accepting this. The fact is, however, people like this can indeed exist. (Trust me, I was and possibly still am one). All you need is self-esteem on a lower end of the scale and attribution of any female behavior as them being nice, simply teasing, or pulling your leg. Consider that we get to look at the situation from all sides, and even see hidden moments of the female characters the main character wouldn't have a clue about, it becomes even more difficult for most viewers to accept.

Look at a series like Zero No Tsukaima (I think it's called something different on CR) Saito clearly chose Louise. He even told the other members of his harem as much. They just all resolved to fight for his affection anyway. But if it's not one thing, it's an other. Characters appearing out of nowhere interrupting almost intimate moments, Louise attacking Saito bumping in to an other girl, the maid who tries to sleep in the same bed with them. It's just nonsense.

And believe me, I was once a clueless teenager myself. I look back on many situations and kick myself in the ass. But there were other situations no matter how clueless I was, there was no misreading. When a girl takes her clothes off, lays on the bed, and says "I want you. Let's do it" you're not going to think she's teasing or just being nice. You're also not going to spring a bloody nose and demand that she put her clothes back on.

I'm not suggesting that all characters go all hentai and bang anything that moves. But once, just once, I would like to see an anime where the main character behaves like an actual person. Not a total perv, but open the advances of the beautiful girl that he's in love with. I'm also not suggesting they show anything explicit. Off camera is good enough. Even anime that is intended for adults displays male characters in one of two ways. The perv who goes after anything, gets nothing, and springs a bloody nose at the sight of a girls bra. Or the pansy who is essentially asexual and not interested in contact with women at all, yet still springs a bloody nose at the sight of a girls bra.
