okay... what about the woman in the upper left, i thought the church was against that little clothing, I'm beginning to wonder if this is more commercially oriented or more religious, have they ever came out with a "commercialized" bible?<---- see one question mark! see!

you're thinking of muslims when it comes to clothing the women. mainstream christians haven't really been as extremely hung up on modesty since the 50's.

commercialized bible? i'm not sure what you're getting at... you mean edited/re-written for entertainment value? hmm, i've heard of a novelized version of the bible though i've never actually seen one. technically most bibles are commercialized. i'd say the only ones that aren't of a ministry nature, like the gideons.

Well it looks like i have a few too many biases/stereotypes when it comes to Christians, I apologize I've probably seen too many movies. What I meant by a commercialized bible was one that was created solely for the purpose of making money, not as a tool for religion.

The article isn't loading for me, but this thread made me burst into a fit of giggles. I have this image in my mind of a totally bishie-fied Jesus complete with sparkles and those shoujo bubbles.

i'm not too surprised, but it's still damned funny. pity they didn't go for the bishi approach...

aww. I'm disappointed. But LOL @ "has he come to save the world..or destroy it?"

Has there been another mangafied Bible? Because I found an article from May about one and the cover was completely different. Also, I found this quote to be hilarious:

"I have always envisioned a Mangafied Jesus: I imagine him as having the amazing ability to shoot nails from his palms and, in times of extreme peril, to join with his twelve disciples and form a gigantic Mecha-Messiah. And, of course, it's a small, wonderful step from Jesus manga to Jesus yaoi."

hee~ Mecha-Messiah.

The cover of that one looks so badass:

Jesus yaoi, wrong in so, so, many ways.... I don't care how much Christians have changed, quite a few of them will be really pissed at you for that.

yeah i noticed the tyndale site i went to that had it mentioned that it was the first "true" chirsitan manga, so it sounds like it's been done quite a bit before. this may just be the first time actual japanese have been involved in the process.

*does a little googling*

that one lokita posted isn't what i'd call manga, it's way more western in style and it it's done by westerners (african americans actually... don't see that everyday).

hmm, there is a fair amount of christian manga-esque stuff out there aside from the ones mentioned so far, but it looks like it's mainly americans doing everything. most of it seems to be a hybrid between western and japanese art styles, but some of it could pass for a well done american webcomic.

You know, that is what I am thinking as well. Only thing I can think of is "Thou shall watch only clean anime." Other than that, I wouldn't have the first clue. Though you have to admit, there's not much room TO teach anything since its anime.

Wouldn't just be easier to go to a church and do that? I mean a Manga bible, you got to admit that idea is out of the box no less, but can anyone REALLY imagine any real lessons coming out the series?

Especially if there were some Japanese refences in the manga as well, that would be too much to bare for any Chruch goer.

see, the point is to tell all the non-christian people about jesus. oddly, they don't seem to go to church. so christians are always looking for new and exciting ways to tell people about their wonderful religion. they see that manga is popular among young people, so it's not too surprising that they would use this as a means as well. it's not meant as a substitute, they're just trying to expose people to christianity through it.

that and provide an alternative to secular manga for christians. i wasn't allowed to read comic books growing up, so i'm all too well aware of that side of the fence.

Ah I get where your coming from. Though the manga business is a tough business, many people prefer action, romance, intensive thriller moments and such, I wonder how the Manga Bible could stand up to that? I hear its a competive business. But don't worry, I get what your saying.

i wasn't allowed to read comics, play role playing games, own a video game console (i could play most PC games), i was allowed to watch very very few R rated movies, and any music i listened to had to be "acceptable" which basically meant christian only, accept for some older classic rock (beatles were ok, led zeppelin was borderline, AC/DC was not) . i didn't watch anime back then, but i suspect it would have been forbidden as well. there was a shitload of other stuff i wasn't allowed to do/watch/listen to etc. then throw in christian schooling, a few years of home schooling, forced church involvement (i was the only atheist in my youth group). yeah, i had a fun childhood.

this lasted till about my senior year of high school when i was rebelling so hard my parents finally just gave up. but no need to get into all the stupid shit i did my last few years of high school. my mother literally cried when i bought diablo 2 that year...
