Jee, this whole debate about definitions sure is silly isn't it? We can agree to disagree, but I will say that there is no "manga style". There are so many manga from Japan from so many different viewpoints that you can't really say that there's any correct way to do a comic to the point where it fits the general definition of a manga. There are similar techniques that Japanese artists use that become common as you read more works, but really, you can say the same for any artform as it varies from culture to culture. That's not to say that artists can't be influenced by other cultures' works, of course not, but c'mon, American films are highly influential worldwide but you don't see every action blockbuster that comes out of another country being called a 'Hollywood film'.

And please people, get off your high horse and stop saying manga is like a comic but with better storyline and artwork that's more complex or some bullshit like that. If there's something we need less of it's overgeneralization.

look, manga is japanese for comics. there some things that set apart from other comics, but thats true for every countrys comics.
in fact, the first manga were created Osamu Tezuka (see astro boy and others) and he was inspired by american animation.
he would go to the theater as a kid with a notepad and draw bambi over and over again. he saw that movie over 80 times he claims.

If american comics can be anime.
american comics can be manga too.
or rather there is little difference
it's all semantics

I really like Bizenghast, yet I have some friends who say that Bizenghast isn't really manga and that all manga has to be from Japan. Bizenghast set in Massachusitts, and it's made by an american author, but it looks like manga to me artistic style wise. So I was wondering. For somthing to be true manga or anime does it have to just stylisticallly look asian, or do you think it has to be from Japan or Korea to really be manga/anime. So is it an artistic or cultral category. No wandering off topic although you can discuss similar anime and manga. Here's a pic for those wondering what the art style of Bizenghast is like

i think the japanese is REALLY good at anime stuffs. BUT, (here comes the big BUT) since you used the word 'MANGA', then are you refering to jap? cause manga is for comics in jap? but as far as im sure, 90% of anime comes from japan.
