I suggest allowing moderators to change user names upon the request of the user. Or, to facilitate name changes, an update PM could be sent to all buddies in the user's buddy list, so that they are informed of the name change. But to minimize the incidences of multiple name changes, I think keeping it as a moderator function would be best.

Offline	Permalink Reply Quote Posted 9/1/07 Well I understand the reasons for why they would want to do that, and I agree that 30 characters is really long. I thought mine was long and it's only 16. Yet it really isn't fair to those who have spent a really long time here you know. All the time they put into their profile is gonna be for no good! That sucks! I know if I spent time picking an avatar, uploading videos, writing in information, making friends, and getting points I would be mad if all that was gone and I had to start over again. They should just make a place for ppl to be able to change their name so that way they fit the criteria and don't lose all their stuff!

Though I can typically say that those long usernamed users are probably not going to get very far in this forum as they're probably just joke account, I would honestly feel for them if they made around 100 posts on this forum, were uploading videos, but then find out that their account has been deleted because of their username. I would much rather see you PM'ing them a message that they need to chang etheir username, and change their username depending on what they answer you.

Since you're account is active, we won't just delete your account blindly. Until a feature allows us to change user names, then we'll just have to wait. Just be aware that in the future, you may have to change your user name.

I don't think thats kinda fair. I agree. From a practical standpoint, it doesn't make sense to have an account with such a long username. Just by looking at these accounts (if you've seen one), it more or less looks like it was created just for the sake of spamming (or leeching). They usually have no avatar, hardly any CR points, nothing placed in their About me! section, and if they're not recently made, they're pretty old, so it looks like no activity has happened much with regard to the user that created the account. And in many respects, it isn't a big deal for profiles like this to get deleted. They might as well just make a new one, since there's very little to begin with before it was deleted. And as with what Azngrace said, we do take into consideration several things before nuking an account. Sending them a PM, for one thing, is one of the measures we do to see if the account really is active. Plus, it's better to warn them in advance than just nuke them with no warning whatsoever. EDIT: Here's a prime example: Andy88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 wow that is a long user name, but I doubt I heard that name before here on cr..........
