I love Fairy Tail, it is one of my favorite series.
I started collecting the manga when hulu stopped uploading episodes after the 'Fighting Festival' arc and am keeping up with the publishing. Honestly I usually go down to the local Barnes and Nobel the day each new volume is released and buy it the day it comes out, one time I had to ask if they even had it yet because they hadn't even put it on the shelf yet.
I find the plot a little odd at times because sometimes the plot doesn't seem to connect much, but then again other series sometimes do that and will connect it all latter so we'll see.
I really like the characters though, the first time I ever cosplayed I was Gray and my girlfriend was Erza

The animation's good, and each arc presents you with plenty of reasons to keep coming back.

However, I think that the flaws cannot be ignored, so here's the problems.

The show has a stronger start than most shonen out there but never really goes anywhere. The whole thing feels a bit rushed and you can tell that Mashima is trying way too hard to impress.
The show seems to think that gratuitous, shameless fanservice is just fine as long as it is self aware.
Natsu establishes that he wants to find the Dragon Igneel but never goes looking for him.
Natsu gets little-to-no development as a protagonist, as he is sidelined for a crap-tonne of side-characters, and barely ever gets any stronger except when the show tells us he has. (like, twice)
He wins almost all the fights from some power-up which he'll probably never use again.
Erza is one of the best female characters I've seen in shonen, but all credibility she may have once had is lost when she is constantly put in embarrassingly skimpy outfits.
Shipping is irritating, and Mashima only fuels the flames of shipping fans, by constantly hinting towards relationships forming in the most obnoxious way possible.
And finally, I'm all for shows with huge speeches about camaraderie and friendship, but this show uses this cliche to its bare bones format, and uses it way too much.

Don't get me wrong. Despite all my ranting, I think what the show does well, it does very well. It just has to many flaws, and lacks the substance of shows like One Piece and Naruto. Feel free to argue otherwise, as I would be happy to hear the other side of the argument.

hmm the show is pretty good but it feels like its lost its direction. all the fights that seem to pop up out of nowhere seems kind of odd sometimes kinda think sometimes he has no actual plan for the manga. but i love the shows unique characters and its world so i guess its okay.

What irritates me is the fact ever since Lisanna came back, despite Natsu's flashbacks of her (presumably dead) in the early season, Mashima's too focused on Lucy now and casting Lisanna into the shadow as if she never existed.

I noticed that as well. I'm not irritated about it but since she came back it didn't seem like Natsu tried to get back that same relationship they once had.

I am kinda with you two...I thought for certain that Lisanna's reappearance would make some sort of ripples in the storyline, but there was just...nothing. There wasn't even really the crying heartfelt reunion with Lisanna and Natsu that I sort of expected. It was more of a "hey, so you were in Edolas the whole time, glad you're back" /pat on the back, let's go back to the main storyline.
Maybe it truly is in Natsu's character not to care that much unless his friends are in imminent danger, and since Lisanna was suddenly back from the dead, she didn't fall in that category, so we get no real reaction from him??
I don't know - since there is only faint undertones of romantic inclinations in the manga to begin with, creating a triangle with Lisanna, Lucy, and Natsu just probably isn't in the cards...and honestly, probably wouldn't have fit in the theme of the manga anyways.

/sighs. Oh well...

Who the hell even goes through all that trouble to establish that a character's dead just to bring her back for no real reason?

yeah I'm not fond of bring dead characters back to life. It just makes it kinda silly.

So I'm interested to see where Mashima's going with Gray... I have hard time believing he'll really be dead forever.

I actually forgot that they brought back Lisanna. It still seems as shes still dead. She barely have any screen time in the Anime, and Manga. The way Natsu & Lisanna were back then in the story, you would of thought that they'd pick up their relationship. But, nope. Its as if they don't even know each other. It would've been better if they left her dead.

I sure hope so. Her scenes crack me up. For some reason yuri stalking is funnier than the Juvia/Gray stuff
