The ancestors of the vast majority of the Filipino people, the Austronesians from Taiwan, settled in northern Luzon circa 2,500 BC.

The Ami )are an indigenous people of Taiwan. They speak an Austronesian language and are one of the thirteen officially recognized peoples of Taiwanese aborigines. The other large group of people are of Chinese dessent and have been settling in the Philippines since pre-colonization, currently forms the largest non-Austronesian ethnic group, claiming about 1.5% of the population.

Then you have the Spanish coming in and so on. So alot of mixed people.

I guess Islander technically speaking but because we're populated by alot of spanish and chinese (even our ancestors) that's why I guess we're considered asian...or Euroasian...because of the spanish and chinese backgrounds on alot of filipinos...spanish influenced our food, culture and language...chinese also influenced our food, our arts...so we're really diverse because there's alot of koreans, japanese, australians living in philippines and there's alot of inter-racial mixing in there(we're already mixed) I guess it's become rather international there now

Philippines has been invaded by different countries thousands or hundreds of years ago. Like Spain, Chinese( I think I forgot my philippine history subject hehehe) and the Americans.. That's why you could see different types of filipinos and filipinos uses ABCs bcoz right after the american invasion filipinos were taught by american teachers about english language.. That's why Filipinos can understand english even those beggars or street vendors though they can't speak that fluently. The culture and the surnames were probably inherited from the invaders..

i think that filipinos are considered to be their own race, not asian or pacific islanders, just filipinos. but it does get pretty confusing when your filling out papers and theres this one part where they ask you what race you are and it doesnt have "filipinos" on it, and you have to choose between asian, &pacific islanders.

This topic hasn't been made, although I do think you should discuss this in the Filipino thread.
