Unpopular Opinions You Have
Posted 8/31/12
There are no lasting consequences to our actions. Everything anybody ever cared about is meaningless. The existence of humans on earth is a trivial event in the history of the earth. Our individual lives and what we do with them amount to nothing in comparison.

People should get over 9/11.
Who cares.
We got attacked.
After all the bullshit we did, we had it coming.

I respectfully disagree (hence... the thread... lawl) but I'm curious if you've developed this opinion further, to be honest.

The thing I tend to keep to myself unless I get in a really heated discussion is that I think 9/11 - while tragic - really sparked some inappropriate reactions from Americans. There are countries who have undergone significantly worse (and sustained) atrocities that never used it as an excuse to perpetuate conflicts or breed contempt for religions/ethnicities in the same way. Civilians need to understand that we're going to get attacked because we have interventionist philosophies - it's part of the risk in our national strategy that we seem to have collectively just accepted (don't get me started). But our reactions to 9/11 have made me wonder a few things about American culture that I think are fundamentally flawed.

I feel even just this kind of questioning is unpopular.

Thank you. Like, you are the first person to be calm while stating a counter opinion.
You have good points too c:

Eh... I think everyone is justified to their opinions, I don't think everyone needs to "Get over it" though.
Holding the memory in our heads helps in many ways.
Peoples lives were lost, it's only right to honor them in memory.
Also, we made mistakes leading up to it. Both in security and in foreign affairs.
Hopefully we learn the lessons that that tragedy had to teach us.
I understand people die every day, I understand that every individual death is insignificant* in the grand scope of the world.
And honestly I could die today and an entire country wouldn't mourn.
However, for that many people to go to work and die for a problem they didn't cause, but the politicians did, I feel is a tragedy.
As well as all the brother and sisters in the FDNY who sacrificed their lives attempting to save others.

The only person I mourned involved with that thing.
Was a rescue dog.

And that's your choice. Personally, I mourned the entire event. I was a child at the time and didn't fully understand everything. But I was still horribly sad that so many people died.
Now I look back and I see all the wasted life. People killed over silly ideals that they disagree on, so human nature goes to the extreme and resorts to violence.

Those are good points to feel saddened by it.
But think about how America kills innocent people daily in our war for oil.
Declared by our 'Savior' George W. Bush.

I don't feel he was our savior, nor do I feel Obama is, in fact I feel we've BEEN being led down a horrible path in terms of our government for a while, but that is neither here nor there.
And I never said I don't feel bad for the innocence lost on the other side as well.
Innocence is innocence, regardless of beliefs. And those unarmed and not wanting to fight shouldn't be killed just for going to work, or buying groceries, or walking down a street.
I mourn the fact that humans can't just live in peace most. There seems to be a need, a desire, for constant conflict.
Which is why for my unpopular belief, I agreed with the other post by Shadorai "There is no such thing as peace"

I'd be okay with that. Zombies are pretty kickass.
And there's a few people I wouldn't mind waiting to turn. :P
