Smoking

Tobacco companies make anti-smoking commercials here in the U.S. to help deter smoking here. But, they are able to sell ciggarettes in China to a much larger customer base. With 2 billion people in China, do you think we should just have cigarette companies sell cigarettes here and restrict them selling in China?

I hate to tell you this (well not really) but those ads put out by actual tobacco companies aren’t to deter people from smoking. It’s to cover their butts from lawsuits for the most part. That and the FDA says tobacco and other drug/alcohol companies, by law, have to tell you any negative effects their product might have.

As far as selling to China, eh… it’s more of a demand issue. Plus I don’t believe they have a department that really puts standards on products that they have like we do here in the US. I’m sure they have something, but it’s defiantly not anywhere near the equivalent of our FDA. Companies in general are going to supply things to those who demand it most. That’s just economics. However, it’s probably even better for companies who sell drugs to sell them to countries that don’t really have any means of checking quality or production.

Which, coincidentally, is why it’s a horrible idea to buy drugs from overseas. Never know what you’re going to get cause they don’t have any standardized way of checking exactly “what” you’re getting.

Smoking is the most pointless thing a person can do since all you're doing is pretty much taking in cancer. I still don't quite understand how it could be so addicting to put a lit stick in your mouth and waste 10-15 minutes of your life finishing just one. And Second hand smoke is definitely a problem. Thanks to it, my life has been shortened or maybe even halved. I can predict that I'll die at an early age in the future even though I've never smoked a single cigarette in my life. I don't want to die and leave my girlfriend alone either...

Agree with you. Though I don't smoke, I dont see a reason why we should stop others from smoking. Sure you may say "We're his/her friend and we dont want to see him/her hurt him/her self" The most you can do is advice the person not to smoke. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

When your parents were young, people could buy cigarettes and smoke pretty much anywhere — even in hospitals! Ads for cigarettes were all over the place. Today we're more aware about how bad smoking is for our health. Smoking is restricted or banned in almost all public places and cigarette companies are no longer allowed to advertise on TV, radio, and in many magazines.

Almost everyone knows that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and heart disease; that it can shorten your life by 10 years or more; and that the habit can cost a smoker thousands of dollars a year. So how come people are still lighting up? The answer, in a word, is addiction.

Smoking is a hard habit to break because tobacco contains nicotine, which is highly addictive. Like heroin or other addictive drugs, the body and mind quickly become so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person needs to have it just to feel normal.

People start smoking for a variety of different reasons. Some think it looks cool. Others start because their family members or friends smoke.

Smoking does have some positive effects on the smoker. Negative to those who inhales the smoke that they exhale, actually.
The Smoke of Nicotine actually disintigrates inside the Lungs and causes a breakdown to some oxygen that when you're near a smoker, then you're actually breathing a Nicotine-based air which will give you the same effect as twice as the smoker.
Sad, ain't it?
Besides, Smoking can give you Alertness and Concentration when in work. That's why Adults smoke, like 2 packets of cigarettes per 2 hours. ><

The only reason smoking companies do stuff like put out anti-smoking commercials. Is because they are forced too.

As for selling cigarettes in china. Well welcome to an international market. And it is china's job to get angry at smoking companies, not ours.
