A mutation can occur whilst the egg is being created, so that what is hatched is not the same as the animal that laid the egg in the place. End of.

Isn't this question one of those questions that can go in a circle forever? The egg had to come first in order to create the chicken can be one answer. The second could be the chicken came first in order to lay the egg. Or scientifically it is possible that the chicken evolved from some other animal which in turn produced the egg. After all every vertebrate that existed and is existing was evolved from the fish. Overall I choose the chicken came first.

for me, i think very scientifically, evolution, in that case it must be the egg, because a chicken evolved from another bird slightly different than a chicken. sorry, don't want to offend anyone religious, i respect your beliefs :]

egg. like a couple people have mentioned, a slightly less-evolved life form or whatever would have laid the egg the first chicken came from. In reverse, i dont really see how the chicken could have come without coming from an egg first.
