Heres an in depth review from someone who played the game.

Quote
----------------------------------
I have had the chance to play the game for a while now, and I'm giving you my opinion on how I feel about the game. This is my honest take on the game, good and bad, yes there are some bad things in Fable 2; but the good heavily outweigh them. Let's get started.

STORY

The story in Fable is pretty much the same as the first, but it goes deeper and has twists and turns to keep you hung to it. This is a non-linear RPG, which means you do not have to do the main quests at all. IF you so desire you can just get a job(I'll touch on this later) but your house and go into the world and fight if you want. You will NEVER be lost on what to do next. This is one thing I like about it, the golden trail will always be there poitning you to your nearest quest (if not the main quest). However I think it's in everyones interest to play the main quest somewhat as the character you meet along the way are very unique and you'll gain access to more areas as you go further into the story. Certain areas are only unlocked by doing the main quests.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay is very improved over the last version of Fable; from buying houses and shops to combat and AI. The first thing you'll notice when you start the game is the dog. The dog is the real star of this game in my eyes. And what makes it special is that, you decide if he will be the star or not. What I mean is that, your dog is only as good as you make it, if you do not train your dog to fight, hunt or do tricks you'll start to wonder why he is there. If you take the time and pay attention a whole new style of gameplay will be available to you.

-Hunting w/Dog

The dog can learn different levels of hutning treasure, level one will have you dog searching for treasurs in a short radius of where you are standing, so you will stinll have to search a bit yourself. It will very rarely find spots to dig, but the items you find will be minor.

Level 2 training is when you will see what he can really do. you may go into a new area and he will run off and start barking, or even passing through a familiar area; he'll find new digging spots and the items you find will be more worth your while. I have found two silver keys b/c of him.

On the downside is that sometimes if your not paying attention, your dog will start barking and you wont have any idea where he is, which will cause you to backtrack and find him on your own. This happened to me twice, the first time he was behind a building in a path I really did not see. The second time he was stuck by a chest I had already opened which was in a tight spot. Which leads me to another nag, I have. It's very easy to leave your dog behind, which leads me to....

-Combat w/Dog

Just like hunting your dog can assist you in combat, but only if you train it too. Level one does nothing, he will just growl whenever enemies get near, but you'll know b/c the camera will automatically zoom out to makes space for enemies that will ambush. Level two is when you will want to change your style up and use the dog to your advantage. I found myself using Force Push and Vortex more so the dog can get them when they are down.

But combat has its downfall, in a way. The more he is involved in the fight, the more likely he will get injured. And its very easy to not notice your dog limping and run off after collecting XP. I stopped so many times when I realized he wasn't with me. Its then that you must again backtrack and find the dog who will be limping. You can then heal him (takes about 5 secs) and he'll be back to barking and running around.

Expressions w/Dog

AS everyone knows, the dog can learn tricks, but how they work are tricky. When your dog learns a new trick, take for instance the backflip, you wont be able to go into your dog expressions and choose backflip. Instead, he does a trick based of your expressions you use. So it's up to you to figure out which goes with which. The backflip is only done when you show off your trophy to people. And you may teach it other tricks, but wont be able to use them until you get the proper expression for yourself. The only mapped expressions for the dog are praise, punish and fetch.

-MAIN CHARACTER

Onto the main character, your expressions work the same as before, but there is not mapping to the d-pad. Instead you press RB and it brings up everything based on catogory. I'm still not sure how we learn them, but I guess its based of renown and alignment and what you do. So if you go through the game without getting married or going on a date, chances are you wont get the "seduce" expression.

Everyone around you reacts to you wether you talk to them or not. I'm a bit famous in Bowerstone and if I stop for 5 sec, I'm flocked with women and men, lol. You will instantly see how much affect you have on them, people will have icons above them if they hate you or love you. You can also highlight anyone and see how they feel and how far you are away from either making that person hate you or love you. Not everyone will love you, your fame may even if your good will have people terrified of you and your dog, lol. I noticed that certain women will be more prone to marrying you if you have a high renown. So you'll only have to give them two gifts then you can marry them.

-Marriage

Once you decide to get married, you will HAVE to buy a house if you dont already own one. That caught me buy surprise, so be wary. Make sure you have a good 10K for a house or else they will follow you around or worse, divorce you right then and there. Also, you will have to set a daily income for your family that will be deducted from you everyday. If your lucky you will have your child who you can give gifts too (toy guns etc) and even name. Well, I forgot to mention ou can name everyone in the game if you want, even your dog providing you give him a collar.

If you neglect your family while your in town, your spouse will walk up to you and say its over. And they are no make-ups in Fable 2. When its over its over, lol. They take the kids with them too, better for us . You can brighten up their mood by not only giving them gifts, but paying attention to your child, sex and upgrading your house. Which isn't like the sims, you'll only be able to swap the furniture for a better version of it. It will stay in the same place it was. But the value of your house will increase by the difference in price.

SHOPS/ITEMS

Buying items and clothes are the same, you can pay the regular price or if your famous enough and they like you, you will get a big discount from them or vice cersa if they hate you. You can also just buy the place and adjust the prices. But if you raise the prices to make more profit, that is seen as an act of corruption! And you can make items very cheap for a loss, but everyone will like you more . There are alot of items to choose from and everything is useful. From foods which can make you fat like pies and liqour which will give you a gut in no time, to things like apples and celery which can take away that gut if you eat enough.

The clothing options are somewhat good, there ar alot of things to wear, and they are also DYES, which you can collect and find. Dyes allow you to color any piece of clothing you have. So that Assasin coat can be a hot pink with green stripes if you like. And your eye patch can be straight red. It's up to you, but the dyes surely add to the custamization of your charcter. Not to mention you can dye your hair also (there is an achievement attached to this).

JOBS/MAKING MONEY

There are alot of jobs in this game to choose from. Some are always available, but other come and go. The blacksmith which is most there has your foging weapons, but here is where the fun comes in. The more perfect hits you get, the higher the chain, and the higher your chain the more money you make. BUT if you a migic user doing this, its pointless. The more physique you have, the more money you will get overall from doing this job.

Same thing for doing jobs such as looking for artifacts. This is very helpful is your dog is a good hunter, but if not, you'll be wandering around depening on the golden trail to show you where to go. That takes the fun out if it altogether. Other jobs such as bounty hunting come and go, and you will only have a few days to do it.

Now if you don't want to work, you can always make money from renting out houses or owning shops. But you can't buy houses/shops without money. So unless you played the Pub Games, you better start going to work for your money.seriously.

COMBAT

Your combat this time around is straight fun, well at least in the beginning. Later on you wont be mashing that X button so much. As everyone knows; you have X for melee, Y for guns/crossbows and B for magic. I wont go deep into this b/c you'll get the hang of it when you play. What I will say is this. Levelling up is based on what you do in combat. So the only way to get Magic XP is to use magic. It comes at a price, b/c too much magic will have blue veins start to show. And once you hit level two, it will take a while to buy those level 3 and 4 slots. You can always go to the potion shop and buy XP potions, but it comes at a high price...unless you own the place .

Fighting is smooth and you can switch between all three with no hiccups. Fighting mutliple enemies is just the same. I have fought at the most 9 enemies doing a quest, and not one time did the game short up on me. This made me very happy indeed. And now onto weapons...Your weapons are very important as well, especially the items from XBLA Pub Games. But if you did not have a chance to get them, you can still get some good weapons and augment them, but from what I've seen so far. The augments that you buy come with a hefty price attached. There was one that allowed more damage to enemies by flame, but if you got hit while using it, you were more likely to be scarred and a few others that were good as well, but the price was too much for me to gamble.

-AI

I'll mention really quick before moving on that the AI is marvelous. I mean, the first few fights are easy, but as you go on they really start to hand it to you if you just keep mashing X and trying to use weak spells. I've used up about 4 ressurection vails already. Another thing I noticed is that, if your fighting Hobbs and Bandits, the Bandits wont pay attention to you. Instead they will try to kill the hobbes themselves then attack you! So you can either let both fight each other, or kill the Bandits who wont fight back, or help the bandits kill the hobbes.

-GUNS

One thing that may bug some people is the manual target with the gun (which wont be available until you buy the slot for it). But if you are surrounded by 4 guys and try to target the guy closest, it may go to the wrong guy sometimes. So its best to just press Y to shoot him really quick and once you have space then go into target mode. Other than that shooting is fine. If you bought the slot for speed, your reloads will be quicker and you can do a quick reload like Gears by listening for the click and pressing Y.

-MAGIC and MELEE

Magic is straight forward, spells have levels the higher the level, the longer it takes to charge. So you have to assign your spells wisely before fighting, doing this in combat is hard, but doable if you have space. The melee is tricky, and you wont be able to dodge or block unless you buy it from a level up. I have'nt gotten the hang of chain attacks yet, but I'm working on it. Flourishes are pretty sick, but you have to time it right, especially later on in the game.

GRAPHICS

Very impressive for Fable 2, there are no pop ups whatsover, from what I've played. In the moring time, the sun will actually hurt your eyes. The grass and flowers are just magnificent and running through them with your dog is fun!! Yes, it may be a little childish, but I love my dog . The characters are also top notch, and the artistic view they went with fits the game to a T. Forests make you feel like your in a fantasy world as the trees are big and the light shines through just right. The spells are very nice too, once you get to the higher ones. A level one Vortex is just minimal dust, but level 3 actually shows dust and debre on screen. And fighting your first troll is just It looks and feels like a living breathing troll. And a tip for when fighing at night or exlporing, certain areas are just dark as hell, and you wont get the automatic light you do when in caves. So using a time spell is like a temporary night vision. And it can help when looking for your injured dog or treasure.

On free-roaming, mnost already know its no Oblivion, but it is still good. I have come to take it for what it is. While I cant hop over every single fence or dive off every cliff, the game is still huge. While travelling you will come to and area with about 3-4 different paths, and those path may lead to other paths which may lead you back to the main path or some hidden treasure/demon door. The towns are also Much bigger and have their own hidden stuff as well. If it was not for the golden trail in the start of the game, I would have been lost, honestly. So not being able to go anywhere isnt bad for this game.

There are some bad things I have noticed when running around, and that is mainly diving and hopping over fences and off cliffs. Diving has your character go into an animation and then your dog will follow. The dog just drops into the water standing up and you will often her a big splash sound. This is the same sound and visual you see and hear if you just simply walk deep enough into the water without diving. The dog is also very slow in the water, or the character is just to fast. You can speed off and leave him behind very easily if your in a rush.

Jumping off of ledgs is the same thing. Your character does a small or big hop, but the vibration level is the same no matter the distance. So why the character has to do a big leap from a small leadge boggles me. And seeing the dog follow you over fences or off cliffs is just . Going over fences you will see the dog start the jump but he will be running in the air way above the fence/wall. It just looks unnatural.

SOUND

The sound is great in Fable, from the fighting to the voices and lines in the towns. The music gets heavy when fighting and walking through town you hear chatter and people mostly commenting about you or talking about other things. The effects in fighting are right on, so you wont here a clang before your sword hits something, and the pistol and rifle sounds are unique. Dialogue is tight as well, when fighting, you can hear the enemies start to taunt and make fun of you if you are mashing X and they just keep blocking, lol. Same thing for people who hate you, they will let you know. In the start women would say "my kids talk about heroes alot, but I never hear them mention your name..." That line always get to me, and I just feel like turning safety off and killing them.

OVERALL

The game is and will be a classic hit. Despite the minor glitches and annoyances here and there. There is just too much stuff in this game to do. The main story is very good and will keep you hooked and since you can't go everywhere from the start you will have to do it at some point to access the Arena and other areas. Your dog will have you playing with it and laughing at people just do you can see it urinate on them . Combat will never have you bored and you'll have to use strategy later on in the game to stay alive. The towns themselves will distract you from everything else from jobs, to just custamizing your character and getting people drunk. You will buy this game, you will play this game, and be engrossed by the world Lionhead created; and you will love it!

My score: 9.6

Rumor has it coop (both local/Live) won't allow your actual character to be used, instead will be forced to use a premade character with little customization. Will recheck later tonight.
