Well coming to North America was inevitable and did hope another good company like maybe Geneon got it instead but we shall see. The website is hopping for the "American Revolution." http://asosbrigade.com/

It had a neat countdown apparently as if Yuki (She rocks!) and Haruhi were loading up teasers before the announcement. There's a fan vid there that was not too bad. Later. Stay tuned Harutards!

I was hoping for someone other than Bandai, but no biggy. Just as long as they include goodies with the first volume. I usually wait till the complete boxsets come out to pick up a series, but I'll be making an exception here for sure.

The promo youtube vid for it is pretty funny, even if it is rather campy.

I'm all for dubs, but I really would've liked it if some company other than Bandai got it.

O rly?
honto ni.
O rly???
Honto desu.
Well.. i gotta say that sucks, but it was only a matter of time really...
At any rate isint Bandai a toy manufacturer, i can deal with the idea of suzumiya Haruhi Dolls, even the suzumiya haruhi lunch boxes, but....I dread the idea of a Suzumiya Haruhi 100 episode filler season and even more something like Suzumiya Haruhi Fighting Games....

As far as I know, it's strictly the american distribution rights they got. There is already a slew of wonderful Haruhi merchandise available (the show was quite a hit in japan). Bandai is technically a toy maker, though they do plenty of anime (Gundam is basically a glorified toy commercial). They are somewhat notorious for all their crappy anime based games as well though I highly doubt they'll be making any. If the show gets popular enough here (like furuba/fma popular) it may be possible to see some of this merchadise wind up in american stores.

They're not going to be making any new episodes, just releasing what's already been produced in North America. Not that I would mind 100 filler episodes of Haruhi... or a fighting game for that matter (I'm sure someone has done something in Mugen by now for it...).

Man I can't beleive everyone is bitching about this. Since it isn't ADV it's not going to be taken down, and the torrents are still going to be around regardless. Why even bother with the english dub? Nine times out ten they're terrible. Subs are good enough for me. Bandai may not be the best american distributer around, but I'll just be happy to have the series in DVD quality. You'd think people would be excited such a cool series is being brought over here.

Only thing I'm curious about is whether they're going to release it chronolical order or broadcast order. Either way is fine for me. It would make better business sense to release in chronological order since that wouldn't confuse the ignorant masses as much, but on the other hand I think a significant part of the shows charm was piecing everything together.

Just don't say that to Tomino-san, I have this odd feeling that he has a high chance of slipping back into his depression and committing suicide.

But in terms of licensing, Bandai is pretty soft on fansubbers. Technically every Gundam series is licensed to Bandai (including the ones that haven't been released in North America) and Bandai hasn't done anything about those being distributed. The licensing companies that you really have to look out for are ADV and Harmony Gold, especially Harmony Gold, a company that seems to have a really weird stick in its ass (please note that said stick kept the uncut version of Macross from hitting the U.S. for almost 20 years).
