Well, I'm sure the Tibetans want a self-governing Tibet. Of course, ideally, I support Tibet's desire for self-governance (although as a Buddhist, a country ruled by Buddhist priests or one whose Buddhist priests rule politically leaves a really nasty taste in my mouth).

To be honest however, I don't see Tibet being free because an independent Tibet would be fiscal suicide. An independent Tibet would only become economic burden on other countries (who would have to support them financially through aid monies) not to mention the fact that China is a huge player in global economics and to seek their displeasure at this point would be disastrous for the world economy at large.

You're misunderstanding. Tibetans are not being banned from the Olympics. It's simply that any Tibetan athlete (I can't think of a single one though) would have to compete in the Olympics as a Chinese national.

The Tibetans however want to compete in the Olympics as Tibetan nationals but since according to China, Tibet is a part of China and not it's own independent, self-governing nation (not it's own country) it can't have it's own representatives. Any Tibetan athlete who qualifies for the Olympics will have to participate as part of the Chinese team.

You're correct with the stupid part. China is made up of may different cultural groups which includes Tibetans and Koreans. Tibet has its own religion? If you mean Buddhism, i know plenty of other non-Tibetans practicing it. Practices? uhhhh I shower in the morning. Maybe everyone who showers in the morning create their own country. Tibetan government is the Chinese government. Language means jack. Americans speak English, we ain't British. Eastern Canada contains many French speakers, that doesn't make Quebec its own country. Ethnicity? Last time I checked they were Asian just like Chinese people.

Good job genius. Those people deserved what they got.

Tibet has a specific KIND of Buddhism that differs from other areas, there are many sects of that religion. By practices i mean cultural practices, which differ between two different societies. When I mentioned the Tibetan government i mean the REAL tibetan government which is run in India by the Dalai Lama. The structures are entirely different. Language means a lot. Mandarin and Tibetan are unintelligible when compared to each other . It's not like American English and British English at all.
And for what you said about Ethnicity, you'd be beat up or severely verbally reprimanded if you went around saying that all Asian peoples are the same. Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Mongolian, Tibetan, etc.....they most certainly aren't the same and they will be the first ones to remind you of that.

Whoops i do admit i misread ethnicity for race. As for the rest, Tibetan Buddhism as far as I'm concerned is just another branch of Buddhism is a particular region. No different than Evangelical Christians or Jehovah Witness's or any of other branch of whatever. Which means you don't have to be in Tibet to practice such religions. There is no real government runned by the Dalai Lama unless you want to be runned by a self proclaimed God acting as a Terrorist. I have never seen a separatist regarded so highly. Oh wait he a seperatist against a communistic state? Thats automatic cookie points for him by the U.S. He is nothing more than a kicked out politician trying to rally up the world by empathetic bullshit.

Language still means nothing. I don't have to speak English to live in the U.S or Canada. Nor do people have to speak Mandarin when living in China. However its very useful to know the native language and if you seen interviews of Tibetans, many of them do speak mandarin.

My mother was just saying how the Dalai Lama was threatening to resign if the violence doesn't stop. I have been looking around and found this site-

http://www.avaaz.org/en/

There is a petition up to end the violence-

Some media created "fake news" on the Tibet protest, CNN, BBC, NTV and many Germany media are on the list.

Why they do that?

Yes but Tibet is the homeland of the Dalai lama who is the leader of Buddhism, he is the reincarnation of a Buddha. He's basically the Pope of Buddhism. There actually is a government run by the Dalai Lama in India, I'm not even joking. The town that it's in starts with a D I believe. He's not self proclaimed either. He was tested and established to be the 14th Dalai Lama when he was like, 2-3. Not his own doing. He doesn't only speak for his own country, he speaks out against any sort of large scale violence or injustice. He's a really intelligent man who's only goal is to try and spread compassion. What's so wrong about that?

Language still means everything. America isn't a good example because we aren't anywhere close to being a homogeneous society. China is another story entirely. Many of them speak Mandarin because they HAVE to. Mandarin is spoken by the vast majority of the country, many times as a second language, because it is the one language that can be carried over through all of China. If you don't speak Mandarin in China you'll have a hell of a time trying to get around.
