Why is it that only Japanese music got really, well relatively popular compared to other Asian countries? I mean china even has a larger import base than japan but no one ever talks about chinese music?

chinese music is always slow, pop, etc...and the same goes with their videos. Chinese people just focus on looks and then hope that their singer will improve. I think for Japanese, they look more at talent....i love the creative videos....and the vast variety of singers/vocals

Chinese music.. look at those currenly girl bands/boybands or even solo artists..
they mainly selling becoz of their inage. (no offence ya)
pick any boyband/girl band.. only 1 or 2 out of those 5 can sing.
the rest just stand in the background and be cool.
only a few atrist have talents. like jay chou who composes songs.

at least japanese music, artists writes their own songs or contributes in the song in a way.
ayumi writes her own lyrics, partly planned her concert and stuffs.
bands.. pick any bands.. they compose and write their musics.

thats why i stopped listening to chinese songs since 14.

So far what i have noticed is that Chinese music is really known for its artistic point such as Opera or Classic style instead of rap or pop. Also the most Chinese music I have heard was in movies, and that is how the main artist becomes popular.

it's b/c of anime. a lot of westerners are introduced to japanese music through anime theme songs.

The only reason Japanese music has more exposure is because their artists and songs get lots of exposure through various forms of media like anime, movies, dramas, and video games, which are popular all around the world. Other countries in Asia don't have the same amount of worldwide media distribution that Japan does.

that's because out of all the asian countries Japan is the most similar to american songs *with the exception of a few Korean artists and the bubbly pop Japanese songs ..*
