Photography http://www.crunchyroll.com/showforumtopic?id=1774 This thread is meant for discussing Photography itself! I've been a photographer since I was a kid, playing around with my Father's runic Nikon EM. What lenses or bodies would you highly recommend? Have you heard of the latest happenings in the Photography world? Here's the place to discuss it! :D ********************************************************************************************************************* If you would like to share what gear you're using, post it this way: Cameras: Nikon D300 Nikon D70s Nikon N90s (F90) Nikon EM (1979) Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX10 Lenses: Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED Tamron 80-210mm f/3.8-4 CF TELE MACRO Nikon Series E Zoom 36-72mm f/3.5 Accessory Macro/Wide lens adaptor (ϕ52) Speedlights: Nikon SB-800 Speedlight (1) Nikon SB-18 Speedlight (1) Vivitar M16 Electronic Flash (1) Accessories: Gary Fong's LightSphere II Wishlist: AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED Nikon D300 Fuji FinePix S5 Pro ********************************************************************************************************************* NEWS ![]() I'll be updating this section of the first post to keep you guys up to date with photography news. ^ don't share pictures in this thread. You can do so in the other thread I posted above.
Well, discussing cameras in phones is valid, I guess. Some phones have decent cameras that are good enough to shoot with. |

^ Haha, how amusing! :D
What model is it? Is it one of the new IXUS cameras? Actually, I'm quite impressed with the Intelligent AF (Face-seeking) servo of the new Canon Point and Shoots. The metering also does well to give priority to exposing the faces of people, as opposed to the background. Very nice, may I say. |

^ ^ I've always wanted too as well, but ever since the D300 came out, I've been having second thoughts... especially since there's a small price difference.
But I guess we could get 2nd hand D200 at a cheaper price from people who upgraded to the D300. The D200 is still a great camera. @ Mocha: What model is your phone? |

Nikon just announced the release of their latest addition to the 18-55 DX family, the 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 VR, to be released around December, just about the same time that the D300 and (hopefully) D3 will be released.
Looking at it, it's quite surprising that it will be released at an estimated price of $199. Though it's predecessor, the 18-55 ED II, showed little optical superiority from it's original counterpart (18-55 ED), it's questionable if VR will really improve the performance this line of lenses had to offer. Many would argue that the 18-55 range is that of a beginners... the original lenses in this line up were known to be dinky and "plasticky", with a cheap rotating front filter. These elements still remain in the VR version of the lens, but what's different is the trading of ED elements for Nikon's SIC technology, and added weight and length to boot. The question is, will this be enough to make people buy it, or better yet, enough to make people with the original 18-55 want to upgrade? My answer... nay. It may seem like a sweet buy, but investing in more appropriate lenses may be better. VR can be useful, but nothing will beat a faster lens ~ unless it's a fast lens with VR. I expect this lens to become a standard kit lens for the D40X, replacing the old 18-55 ED II. So what's next, an 18-70 f/3.5-4.5 VR? That sounds like a better bargain for Nikon. |

Very nice Ed.
I've been studying photography since I was 16, so about 7 years now. I like digital for its efficiency and quickness, but my true love will always be black and white film photography. When it comes to film I only do B+W, but if its Digital I usually opt for color. I have a Maxxum SLR film camera and a couple of rinky dink digitals that I carry around for immediate access. I just suck at remembering to buy batteries :( Haha thanks for starting this thread. I miss being in a lab for 8 hours getting a picture exactly right. |

Though I'm a die-hard Nikoner, I'm still open to hearing news from Canon. Last I heard, they already released the 5D, 450D, and the 1D Mark III. I'm highly impressed by the fact that they put full-frame sensors on both the 5D and Mark III, as this is a more competitive leap, as compared to Nikon's DX sensor in the D300, and a full-frame in the D3 only. echo_psyche wrote: Very nice Ed. It's hard to strike a conversation in this forum with people who are really into photography. As for me, I've had a hit-and-miss experience using my Dad's old Nikon EM (circa 1979). It still works well, although it works much better when I opt using Photochrome, or some other kind of B/W film. As for digital, I'm sold with the D300. Talk about 6400 ISO with 12000 Push... that and the fact that it's no longer noise, but actual "digital film grain". It looks amazing. |
