Peer Pressure
Posted 9/1/07
Nearly everyone ends up in a sticky peer pressure situation at some point. No matter how wisely you choose your friends, or how well you think you know them, sooner or later you'll have to make decisions that are difficult and could be unpopular. It may be something as simple as resisting the pressure to spend your hard-earned money on the latest i pod player that "everybody" has. Or it may mean deciding to take a stand that makes you look uncool to your group

some conformity to society may be required as you grow up and throughout life.
No i'm not talking about the latest ipod or the coolest car, i'm talking about, which way you should vote, what job you should have, what type of house you should live in, how old you should be to have children.
Those types of pressure.

Some conformity is what is required due to the system
If you want to be successful, you HAVE to work within the system.
this means conformity.
Wearing the suit and jacket because you need to have the job to pay the bills so you can go clubbing, or whatever.

Peer pressure to do stupid things like the ipod or drugs.
If your "friends" don't accept that you don't want to have or do something... then those people are NOT your friends.

I do think peer pressure can be good sometimes.
Friends influence others to make better decisions every now and then.

peer pressure is negative and usually has to do with drug use, alcohol, smoking and other things. they pressure people into shit they dont wanna do.

look at the name

peer pressure

its just peers pressuring you into doing something. its not generally a bad thing but a lot of people use it for bad which is why people get the negative look on peer pressure

Or just plain dumb stuff. For example, in a experiment, the subject was given a test and sent into a room, alone. The testers then blew smoke under the door of that room. Naturally, the subject went to get help in a hurry. But in another scenario, the subject was taking a test in a room with another person, who knew what the actual test was. When the smoke started coming in, the other person didn't react, which actually made the subject less likely to react as well, even though they didn't know that the smoke was a test.

I still don't quite understand the point of this thread. Talk about our peer pressure problems, some we've seen, and/or what we think about it? I'm confuzzled. Anyways I think peer pressure is a bunch of jack. It makes me want to do/buy the opposite of like 90% of things unless I like it or them.
