Do you place great value in life, and do you think that the mind can exist outside of it? To rip off Paul Davies here are the two extreme opinions:

‘So God created man in his own image.’ There’s Genesis 1:27, suggesting that Humankind is a great and valuable entity.

‘We are survival machines-robot vehicles blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known to us as genes.’ There’s Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene telling us quite the opposite.

So where do you fall? Do you think people are important and hold a purpose, or do you think we a fleshy components that simply exist for the sake of existing.

I think it depends on how you look at it. Religiously, or secularly. Religiously there is an eternity, and so we find purpose in progress if nothing else. Secularly the universe has a finite supply of life and will eventually destroy itself and everything in it, including all the accomplishments of Human kind. So there is no purpose, and we are simply going on like drones and animals.

Controversial, yeah. But I think it’d be weak and dishonest to view it differently. Why would you make a cup of tea, if you knew it was going to be spilt before you could drink it? Then again one might argue that religion is weak because it is a crutch to make us think we have a purpose.

I guess it depends on the reason behind your beliefs, eh? I believe in God because the scientific necessity for his existence. It has nothing to do with finding purpose. But if you make yourself believe in God just for a purpose that might be weak. Who knows. That’s off topic.

Anyway, back on topic, how do you define life? How do define valuable life? Ext.

Life is a condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects, i.e. non-life, and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally. A physical characteristic of life is that it feeds on negative entropy.[1][2] In more detail, according to physicists such as John Bernal, Erwin Schrödinger, Wigner, and John Avery, life is a member of the class of phenomena which are open or continuous systems able to decrease their internal entropy at the expense of substances or free energy taken in from the environment and subsequently rejected in a degraded form (see: entropy and life).[3][4]

A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere on Earth. Properties common to these organisms—plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea and bacteria—are a carbon- and water-based cellular form with complex organization and heritable genetic information. They undergo metabolism, possess a capacity to grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce and, through natural selection, adapt to their environment in successive generations.

An entity with the above properties is considered to be a living organism, that is an organism that is alive hence can be called a life form. However, not every definition of life considers all of these properties to be essential. For example, the capacity for descent with modification is often taken as the only essential property of life. This definition notably includes viruses, which do not qualify under narrower definitions as they are acellular and do not metabolise. Broader definitions of life may also include theoretical non-carbon-based life and other alternative biology. Some forms of artificial life, however, especially wet artificial life, might alternatively be classified as real life. These are not my words, I found them on wikipedia.com. I can't tell you anything you probably haven't already heard.

Resplendently and eloquently put. Were those your words? Just curious. Either way, what about the ability to reproduce?

Life: existence in the physical world: the quality that makes living animals and plants different from dead organisms and inorganic matter.
Its functions include the ability to take in food, adapt to the environment, grow, and reproduce.

Yet, this is all from an entirely secular and clinical point of view. Feel free to toss in personal perception and religion.

How do you define life? How do you define valuable life?

I guess I really can't define life but I just question it.
I sometimes wonder why I'am alive I mean I'am not special or anything so why am I here why was I born .
so i wonder why am I alive
so in the end my question is how define what i don't understand.

I guess its not really an answer to the question but this is what I think

Life in more than aspect that is the process of living, is something that the definition of which can only be defined by the one living it. Each person has different needs and thus sees life differently there is truly no wrong answer to such a question. I will define life as I see fit when I see fit after all such a definition would be subject to change based on the situation and who asks it.

Any ways to the idiot who posted that she isn't something special, I can't agree unless you wear your hair the same as everyone else talk the same as everyone else, act the same as everyone else, think the same or believe the same as everyone else. If not all of that holds to be true then guess what you are special.

I see life not as making choices and progressing blindly by basing your choices on the accepted social standards of current society, but rather having such audacity as the look outside the choices given and to find the purpose of making such decisions beforehand. With this method, I have come to believe that life is merely a vessel for the opportunity to understand existence and that to understand existence in itself should be the goal of life.
