Which Final Fantasy had the best storyline?

For romance, you also have FFX as well but I don't think it was as nealry as good as FFVIII.

You got an introvert who falls in love with a rambunctious girl. He foolishly saves her, cuddle together to the song that her mother dedicated to his father, foolishly let her go and got scolded, saved her once again and made a promise, kept the promise, and at the very end, were spending time alone with each other on one of Balamb Garden's balcony star gazing. Now here's the interesting part. We finally see the introvert smile happily. Squall transformed because he fell in love with Rinoa.
