I'm poor...so I can't buy a DVD every time I want to watch an anime...I support your cause, though, and wish I could do that too....

Well it's not just in America. I believe a Chinese video-streaming site was sued a while ago. I often go to one of em to watch some old American sit-coms (like Will & Grace).

Anyway, isn't that how the economy goes? Anime was at its peak a while ago, the only direction to go is down. Ahaha guess this really does prove the world's economy depends on the American economy (oh AP euro).

Bootlegs and illegal downloading has always been an issue (Music industry, youtube) There's really no way to solve this problem. Some sites have you pay a small fee to download or watch, but there are a whole lot more that are for free or you just have to register. Even if you take them all down, someone's going to pull up a new one. It's like bacteria. It's always 99.9% with our soaps, not 100% (it shouldn't be, since it's not so healthy).

dont give a shit
do u no y
becuase it wont stop
i no this
as technology becomes better stuff must as well
the problem is anime and things like music are not good enough
think about it like this y buy an album or a dvd when ur only gunna like 2 or 3 things on it. faster and cheaper to download it
the thing is people will pay for things if it is good enough( iTunes) so if they did better wit tat kinda stuff than i would gladly wait for eps and stuff

Crunchyroll has been my main source of watching anime, and now that a few of my favorites have been licensed, I start to think that its for the greater good. I mean, DVD volumes are not all released at once, and for about $20 a volume every now and again, I think its worth it.

er but if every1 buys dvds most people will be poor (me) and well subbers will just die out and anime will still go down because streaming also promotes. they have other ways of making money its just that profits are going down, that dosent mean it will stay down, its there job to get it up so itll be fixed sooner or later.

I watch the show first. Then if it really captures my interest, I would definitely buy the DVD and manga (Like what I'm doing in Hunter X Hunter).

Actually the 'illegal' downloads have helped the industry to a degree. It's the same with the Hollywood tv/movie industry. There are many fans who simply wouldn't have heard of a show/song/etc. It opens up the market to a bigger audience. There have been companies/individuals who have stated that if it wasn't for the internet then their movie/show/etc wouldn't have been as big of hit. You will find there is a large population that is more willing to buy a product if they can try it first. There is also a big population who wouldn't have watched it at all have they not streamed it/downloaded from a site. They simply would have found something better to do. I don't mean they would have paid either, I mean they would have never seen it. So them viewing it and talking about it to their friends wouldn't have existed. So that means their friends wouldn't have gone to see it....it's a cycle.

The problem with declining markets is what other people have stated. It's cost related. But, its not just about the cost, it is also about the quality. Companies can no longer come out with sub par products and expect for it to be sold for some massive amount. Take a look at tv/movie/anime, now think about shows from 10 years ago (yes i know 10 years is to far for some people to remember ), 5 years ago, last year. How many of those have actually been worth going to a theater, turning on the tv, buying a dvd for? I can tell you that it isn't many. So basically people have an option now. Companies need to wise up and stop trying to put it in people's mind that 'downloading is a bad bad naughty naughty dirty dirty thing' . They need to actually take a look and come up with other ways to make money instead of relying on the ways they have been using. The times have changed, people have changed, that basically means that for them to make money THEY have to change.

Yes, I agree with this to an extent, a good point indeed. It's good that people can sample the product before they have the option of buying, just as long as they don't go overboard with the 'sampling' (Sorry if thats not the point you were trying to make, but thats how I saw it )

But what i really find unfair is that over here in the UK, we don't get many anime released here. It's more harder for us to buy anime than say in the US where they have more anime released there. So i don't know why people are complaining about the price for.
Posted 3/23/08
I support your opinion. I watch fansubs too, but when the DVD comes out...I must buy it. Same with manga, I read it online...then when it's available, I buy it.

You might as well buy the DVD now since its cheap. Pretty soon, all anime is going to get licensed and the price of DVD's are going to go up. Besides, it's totally worth it.

Though I absolutely agree on what myshellbell said They should give us a try before we actually buy it.
One try is enough, the rest you must purchase it.
