as much as I prefer the original DVD of my favorite animes, the fact is that, I don't know where to buy them. I went to all kinds of malls/stores in the Philippines but nowhere to find and the one i found were those pirated copies of animes. So what is my choice then? I was forced to buy the pirated one. LOL! although I wanted to support the industry...

I would do that, if their was a satisfactory supply of anime in Australia. I have googled for local places that have anime DVDs etc, but have failed countlessly. The only way I can get anime I want is through the net and post etc. I can't afford to pay so much money on postage and handling ($30AU+)
It's unfair.

there is always a licensed distributor in any country and even if there isn't one the next country does.the us isn't a big market for anime and manga.only accounting for 10% of the total sales with the rest from japan. The thing that is killing the industry is japanese file sharing software.Where do you think raws come from?Geneon collapsed because they couldn't come to an agreement with adv for certain titles coupled with the slowing dvd sales due to english fansubs but luckily I don't watch many of their titles.Back to dvds,I never even knew the existence of odex(singapore distributor) until they started suing people and even if I knew there were 2 licensed distributors in my country I had a hard time finding their stores(eventually I found one near to my house). The thing is poeple should try harder to get the things they want and be resourceful. The box set for blood+ here is only USD$40 for 50 episodes and its not a bad deal considering the US does it for USD$40 for at most 10 episodes judging from what I usually see them selling. So buy dvd's from a nearby distributor. Its cheaper and just as good as any other.

I so agree with you. There is something like that in America but you can only buy if you live there. And I don't.

Who needs to buy anime videos if you can watch it online? After watching all videos you buy what would you do then? Nothing. You would just keep them just wasting the space in your room. My cousin buy a 10 set of naruto dvd. After watching it all the dvd's it is now placed on a drawer for already 1 year. Such a waste of money.

Taken from my profile

I am officially announcing that from this moment forth, I am going to stop watching anime online in order to support the anime industry, and its continued growth.
I have recently read reports that the value of the anime industry is falling, and this is mainly to do with illegal file sharing etc... I will finish the anime I have already started watching, but after that, I will be buying all my anime legally. I encourage the rest of you to do the same, and support the industry in the same way I am.

Hey, you don't have to agree or anything, its just after reading the latest edition of PiQ, I cant help but agree. And after the collapse of Geneon, I do worry...
The Japanese anime industry relies on the licensing of titles from American publishers, and it would be dramatic if the profit was not being made.

I understand that it takes ages for anime to be released in its English equivalent, and I do get frustrated with this process.

And I agree with the writer in the PiQ article, that maybe some kind of download system where you pay a small fee for episodes is maybe a good option.

Anyways, maybe a lot of people will disagree with me, its ok... but please understand my opinion.

Thanks very much.

do you have a link to that article....

Here's my question. The anime industry was doing fine before America ever licensed its first anime. If anything, licensing is only a supplement to the Japanese anime industry. Is fansubbing the only factor the article you allude to points out for why the anime industry is falling? Because I would say the declining economy is a bigger reason for it - buying anime/manga is a luxury, not a necessity. In today's global economy, I would say that it's a very logical cutback to make when trying to save money.

and this guy has a very good counterargument....to the best of my knowledge.....the anime industry was just fine before america stepped in......

Well u actually can't get that many good animes on DVD here in N. Ireland. Its only like the most famous ones like Gundam, Naruto, Bleach and so on. And because not many ppl buy them the prices are pretty high. And i cant exactly buy them off the internet since i dont have a credit card.

Also most DVD versions are dubbed, and unless done exceptionally well, in my opinion, ruin the anime. And im not going to pay to stream animes off a website. None of that money goes to the anime makers do they?

I would like to support the anime makers, i really would, but theres nowhere near me i can buy em.

You know its the companies lack of initiative thats why they are falling 1 by 1. If only they sell subbed DvDs not limited only to japan but to other countries as well.... Another thing doing like what Gonzo did.. Partnership with other streaming site. Or they make their own site and must pay to register to their site. thus giving you an access to their animes. The fans is always there.. They just need an easier way to reach them....

it dont matter one bit at all because animes will never stop being illegally shared across the world so all these arguments are kinda pointless in my opinion, the only way anime will never be shared to millions across the world is if japan starts a war because of it and i think they have many more problems then why ppl are watching their animes for free lol, and i almost forgot to mention that CR really sucks now and i hate it because soon everything on this god forsaken site will be licensed because as soon as an anime gets popular it'll be licensed on this site because this site is a waste, its definaetly a worthless site that may cause to the end of anime on this site alltogether, damn shinji, u just aint right man u just aint right
