here haven't been mosquito here so Im guessing that mosquito coil isn't needed, except maybe for camping (got to watch if spark of fire going to burn the whole forest. California is a place with too many fire.

On the other hand, We use it in my dad and mom country. I think I saw one in Gintama but I can't remember which episode because I watch all 100

Hmm... I'm actually intrigued that nothing really comes up when I search for it. I don't really know how it's written so I guess it has to be in Kanji or something. What I do know is that interestingly enough, how we used to call it back in the Philippines "Katol" is pretty much how they call it here in Japan as well "Katoru" (or something like that... maybe I should just ask later why it's called "Katoru" haha)
(Something tells me it has to do with how "Ka" is supposed to mean mosquito... but I could be wrong)

Edit: Okay, did a little research and thanks to Wikipedia I did learn a few more additional things. 蚊取り線香 (katori-senkou) (Ka = mosquito, tori = to take/take away, senkou= insence stick) is how it's called in Japan, and as a part of localization to the Filipino language, it has turned into the "Katol" we know today.

The next might be a bit off topic but:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tagalog_loanwords
Check out the site... this might encourage those who live in the Philippines to actually take up more languages than the two they already know. Just goes to prove that the common central Philippine language is a bastard child of many different languages - though lacking in history, it makes up for making native speakers potentially flexible linguists.
