I agree with ratman ^_^...but magnus ur not alone in the ways you think...I used to have doubts too...i'm pretty sure all Christians go through something like this in their walk with God.

My cousin has similar story to yours...I guess he was born a "God chaser" and asked to be baptized at the young age of 8 or something like that...however he "gave up" on God after one of his best friends died in a horrible way (he still won't tell me what happened) after that incident he stopped going to church, gave up on school, immersed himself in games, and became, in general, a really bitter person.

He soon was sent by his parents to live with my other cousins that live pretty close by to me and we began going to the same church ^_^...(he had to come to his own displeasure)...Somehow, he decided in his own mind that he believed in God again and is now in Bible school studying to be a missionary ^_^

of course we all prayed and talked with him about his issues but my cousin was an intellectual like yourself and it's just an example to show you that there are many in this world that have faced the same problems that you have...we all deal with our problems differently and end up with different outcomes to the same problem...but I promise that God is a God of love and not of evil...people commit crimes out of their own evil intentions...and all fall short of the Glory of God...we're all in this walk of life together whether you like it or not...

OK, just my observation: All the posts after this are sort of unrelated to the original post! Magnus is saying that he apologises for being rude to people who believe he's eternally damned since he isn't a Christian. Why quarrel with that? If he feels that way, fine, if he doesn't, so be it. I'm afraid I don't really care about other people's religion - I think we ought to worry about our own before trying to convert people.

ah well, whether he's playing us or not makes no difference, we still end up arguing with him. His basis for becoming an athiest is founded but he missed a lot. And when he was younger and called himself a Christian is theology was very weak at best. So you can continue arguing with him but it'll go nowhere. he's dead set on proving he's right. It's sad, but there are people who are like that.

I resent your implication that I have no background in theology. Augustine, Aquinas, the process theologians, the trinitarians, and a score of other apologetics are all in my personal library. I would be willing to bet I have a more firm grasp of traditional Christian theology than you do, though please do not take that the wrong way.

no no, I did not mean you had no theological background, I meant that your personal theology was not as strong as it should have been when you were younger. I dont doubt that you have a pretty firm grasp on Traditional Christian Theology, more than I because I'm a protestant, not a catholic and catholic theology has been around longer. But all human theology is flawed in one way or another. Whether Catholic or Protestant. I find things in both theological styles of Christianity (and denominations when it comes to protestant) that I dont necessarily agree with. Maybe it's me being selfish but I think it's more that people are interpreting the Bible wrong and i can't agree with it because ever since coming to Bible College, my theology has been turned upside down and twisted around so I'm still trying to figure everything out and put the pieces back together to form a better theology and Christian living.

i was once afraid if im going to hell too..... but now im really happy.... there are times that i doubt myslef... but i also constantly remind myslef that Faith dosent come from me.... it comes from JESUS. admit it... i know ive said this many times...but admit it... despite everything. you still feel something is missing...why would you even bother knowing these things anyway? why are you even bothering trying to disprove something if you are so confident that this isnt real? my are you even here?

mag, i can sense.... that you Thirst for Him....... questioning us is a part of your thirst... you arent content cause you want more..... keep it up magnus, i may not be able to answer everything..i still am to know more about Him... but i can help you on your journey...

While you aimed this at magnus, i'm going to answer it a) because i share magnus' views on a lot of things and b) I cannot resist the temptation to show you how wrong you are about 'needing' god.

Right if God was needed than atheists wouldn't exist. If we needed him we would have died out a long time ago. We don't have any God and we get along in life fine. Or perhaps you feel that my life is of course guaranteed to be empty and meaningless simply because I don't believe in God, that I am somehow less than you are because of my lack of beliefs. To be honest your high and mighty attitude REALLY pisses me off, hence I replied to let you know Believing in God DOES NOT make you better than non-believers dipshit, which is what your entire tone implies. (you know stuff like, 'come on admit, I'm right' and telling us what we want when you have NO IDEA) And I personally try to de-convert you all because my conscience doesn't let me leave clearly ignorant people to waste their lives and delude themselves that they are never going to die and that there is anything up there that loves any of us. Yeah sorry for the angry tone here but with a post like that, you deeply deserve it.

Stickmania: Christians don't believe that we are superior to atheists, or to any other people. We just have our faith, and we believe in it.

About God not existing because atheists are still alive: Well, what you're saying is "It's either atheists or God." Why does there have to be such an ultimatum? Of course, everyone on this earth is God's child, and nothing can ever change that, but He gives us free choice as to whether we want to believe in Him or not. So, while He may be deeply pained that there are some people who refuse to acknowledge him as their Lord, He's not going to strike anyone dead because of that.

im not picking a fight...... im sorry if i ever insult you or something.... but i wasnt talking about physical need but the spiritual.... and im not saying that anyone is less than me.... and about when i said that and when i say that admitting that something.... does not necessarily mean that i am EXACTLY right.. that "something missing" that feeling will vary from one person to another...
besides you are missing my point... im saying here that Magnus is needing Him.. cause you may not believe me or anything..but he is showing it.... he is trying to find the truth.... he is asking and researching about God. its like, ok... i dont believe this but i will still ask... i will still try to disprove....but why? and if your main goal is trying to de-dconvert us.. its been months since youve all done that.... you know were not wavering despite everything..

so are you saying that youre wasting time eating a moldy lolipop because you pity it cause it still thinks its delicious? (ok that was a bad example)

anyway, you get my point? he may deny it........ it will be up to him... but he is clearly showing signs that magnus needs God... his way of asking us.... and there are times he defends...... im really happy for him...it may take a long time... years even....
but he is starting to find God in his own journey in life..........

Yeah, hence I wasn't saying all christians, just her who was acting like she was better (on this occasion) And the ultimatum you mentioned was simply in response to something she said, this crap about 'needing' god. If I needed God then I would have died due to a lack of him. Logical conclusion is therefore, I don't need god to live my life. And there must be a final ultimatum between atheists and Christians/all religious people in general cos only one of us can possibly be right, one of us is most certainly living a lie and that is not right. Hence we try to find out who is wrong. Its a simple matter of knowing the truth, whatever that truth may be. If you do not seek the truth you are a fool, if you blindly believe what others tell you you are a fool, if you do not challenge your perception of the world you are a fool. Simple. Tell me (for the purposes of an example), have you personally met God, Jesus and/or an Angel or were you convinced to join your religion by other humans? Have you ever considered the possibility that humans are mistaken, and they simply passed their mistaken beliefs on to you? Have you ever considered all of the other religions out there? Have you ever considered if you chose the right one? Have you ever considered that most people who follow a religion MUST be wrong, as only one religion can be right and hence all those who follow other religions cannot be? Have you considered the fact that this means that humans do without question create religions which are false and which do not have a God to follow? Have you ever considered the fact that people do give their lives for these religions and beliefs, and that some of them MUST give their lives in vein (you must see the Muslim suicide bombers as a waste of life for example) Have you ever considered that as most religions must have been created by man, that there is a distinct possibility that ALL religions were created by man? These are some of the questions you should be asking yourself, because you surely seek the truth, don't you?

I'm sorry stickmania but i don't think emmo was picking a fight at all..she's been in a similar situation as magnus and she was actually trying to comfort him...I think you misunderstood her intentions

We all know that a believer is no better than a nonbeliever and she definitely didn't imply anything of the sort on her first post so...lets all cool off a little ^_^...All have sinned and all fall short of the glory of God.

...there is no reason to rant about 'needing' God. In reality we do need him...and guess what? You are dead...we are all dead until and condemned to hell if we don't have God and Jesus in our lives. Even so called 'Christians' that claim that they are reborn in Christ and deny Jesus with their lifestyles are condemned to a horrible eternity.

also i really don't want to lock this thread but it will happen if we don't stay on topic and stop arguing about random stuff.
