I hate politics...

Yeah, world history made a difference in my point of view in the government. Fascism, anit-semitism, communism, dictatorship, nazism and all those weird crap. I like democracy, it shows that the people decide on what they want (though some may be stupid and one-sided).

I hate politics though..

come on! There is an obvious cultural and historial bias in whatever answer one gives. It depends greatly on the ppl. I believe that there is no one GREAT way. Different ppl need different gov and have different. There is no point in comparing between the different gov.

The people choose what is best for them, be it democracy or communist or whatever.

Although, the majority of ppl are bought up in a sort of western culture and have a western thinking style, we tend to have ethnocentrism. Believing that our current culture or system is the best.

I would say that the best is to pump yourself with knowledge and respect for all

There have been successful dictatorships.... What you talking about? Most of the ancient civilization were ruled by dictatorships. Augustus Caesar ruled by dictatorship, although he does attempt to mask it and many kingdoms thrived under dictatorship from good leaders. Just because of the fact that the bad dictators are the ones that get highlighted doesn't mean there has been no good ones.

agreed. recent dictatorship, especially saddam hussein give dictatorship a bad connotation. But theres many successful ones, all dictatorships had there bad qualities. can monarchies with undisputed power can considered one? if so, Akbar of india, Louis XIV, along with caeser and other ancient figures provide excellent examples. They did practiced some prejudice, imperialistic policies and unjustice but overall, they improved significantly the well-being of their nation/state's institutions in their life time. One simply can't say dictatorship is bad. Dictatorship has the potential to improve our livelihood's tremendously in a short span of time, democracy on the contrary takes awhile because legislations must be passed through the different houses and approved by various committees. The process of reforms in democracy is slower. Both bad and good. Democracy works slower than dictatorship because it has seperation of power. slow for action is bad but this also prevents unfair laws and stupid rash actions to escalating.

i still prefer democracy over dictatorship though, we have a president to take care of foreign affairs, power of this under one person at least speeds up our time to make war when needed rather than bickering and arguing about it in congress. only problem is, politicians, some or mayybe most politician are more fond of money than the well-being of their state. thats where the corruption came in =\ but take a note, our style of democracy is very new in our history. the greeks werent the same.
america is trying ^.^;; give them at least some respect in attempting to provide a government in which tries to establish integrity, fairness, truth, prosperity and legitimacy over its people.

btw, appointing a leader after a dictatorship ? i believe according to history, most transfer of powers has been bloody, resulting in civil war. the shift of power isnt one to be dealt lightly. DEMOCRACY however is peaceful if proper precautions are taken (IE: U.S) . Another reason why i prefer democracy better. I'd say, the benefits of democracy outweights the negativity of it's components greater than a dictatorship outweighs it's potential disaster. A man you know, pureply, pristinely, without a doubt seeking the 100% itnerest of it's country and is unshaken by temptations of power that has the proper, correct and neccessary characteristics to bring his/her nation's to success is... rare (?)

Individual dictators, yes. Whole nations or empires being ruled overtime by dictators have proven to fall. I prefer the idea of a consitutional monarchy with occasional bouts of absolute monarchies and revolutions.

The Roman Empire fell mainly because of over-expansion, inefficient taxation, and corruption, I fail to see how being a democratic nation would have spared the Roman empire from such a fate.
