~ renamed the thread.

It'd be a little dull to listen to something you don't understand, but sometimes, foreign music is quite catchy, and I prefer listening to it at times over local or popular musical genres.

Unfortunately, sometimes, when you learn the said foreign language of a song you like, you end up realizing that the lyrics are a little less than what you expected. I guess that's just because there are cultural tags to these songs, so listening it to a different cultural point of view will bring about some discrepancies when you try understanding what is being sung.

to me it doesn't really matter... as long as there's something in the song that i like, even if it's a different language or a totally new genre, i'll listen to it.

I think in my opinion that it doesn't matter. Sure having to understand it, you can get the meaning out of the song, but then I like the beat of the song more than understanding it. As long as it has a really nice rhythm then that's fine with me.

Psh it takes 5 seconds to google the lyrics most of the time.

to me it doesnt matter.
i like listening to both but I do tend to listen to more music from another language other than my own. American music gets old fast and I hear it enough on a day to day basis.
as far as foreign music, I mainly listen to songs of a language that I am actually trying to learn (such as Korean and Japanese music in my case) so It'll benefit me plus i like it anyway
but mainly it's the rhythm and melody that catch me at first.
if I can feel it, I like it.
understanding is important but it's important to feel it as well, in my opinion
at least.
