hey..
i'm going to pick my options soon for IB, and I am completely puzzled by all the subjects and 'higher leve' and 'standard level'. As my school is new to this, the teachers can't tell us what the subjects will be like and we don't really know what the difference is between higher level and standard level....

so if you take IB... please help!! which subjects do you take? how are they?

IB = "I'm Better."

This was a joke back then when I was in highschool. Especially meant for stuck-up A+ students. =P

It's no joke, whatsome. In Melbourne, no public school offers the IB, only private schools do. So only relatively rich ("I'm better") type people can do it. It isn't an option for those at Government schools, and the Education Department doesn't seem to care.

emily_92, sorry I can't help you as, obviously, neither my sons nor myself have had access to this option. I think maybe some of the European CR members would probably know more about it than most of us, because it isn't as "elite" there. Hope you find the information you need.

Here in North Miami, public schools such as North Miami Senior High and North Miami Beach offer IB program for students that really show potential (good grades) coming out from middle school.

I used to go to North Miami Senior High. Most IB freshman students here are already started taking AP classes such as World History & Trigonometry/Calculus.

I heard studying AP World History was such a pain in my highschool. Everyday, students had to read very lengthy 6 - 8 chapters; plus 2 tests each week.

I like the studying techniques in the jdrama Dragon Zakura here in CR. Those guys make me look slow.

If you're confused about the IB the best people to speak to would be either s_j_b (Steffi) and henz_lan (Henz).
Both of them sat the IB last year and got really good results (no surprise there).

The IB system just plain confuses me although I've been told it's a much better test of your knowledge than AS/A levels and it's more reliable.

I sit exams under the Scottish system which only adds more confusion when people compare it to the IB and the English system. ^^

Anyway I'd PM those two people if the IB system gets confusing for you.

I took the IB in a public school in denmark where education is free. Only problem was that since it was a public school most of the teachers were danish and some were lacking basic english skills. Sure it was a pain in the ass and there are a lot of things that the IB system could improve on organisation wise but I like to think it was worth it. Mainly because of the diversity in the classes. My class had 50 students from about 40 different nationalities, so it is a great way to learn about different cultures.

I have something called AP (Advanced Placement) classes. I have a Psychology course right now and it's online, it's not too bad just a lot of reading and studying. But I have heard that in classroom classes, you write A LOT of essays. So I would say that they are quite difficult, they require a lot of time and effort.

I'm doing AS/A levels, if it is as animoo_x, and AS/A is the counter part of the IB, then I can tell you it is really painful, well, in my school, preparations are awful, big books and all.....
I'm sitting for them now, not too many, however the tests are usually made for more time than you have, for example the multiple choice for X subject has 45 questions you have to answer in 1:45 hrs, and the questions are very developed (in a language form).... You have to know your stuff or you'll end up losing vital seconds! If you're fist language english you should not be troubled by the language (I'm guessing), but if you're second language english then it comes harder... I'm second language.....
I hope I have been of any help.... Good luck!

IB is devastatingly hard, or so i've heard, so you really need to be serious about your studies and there's hardly any lecture you can afford to miss =/ my sisters gonna be starting it next year so i wish her best of luck but shes a pretty good student, so with the necessary hard work and dedication she'll be able to pass it ^^;;
Plus they read the hardest books! The girl who told me all about the IB program said she read The Great Gatsby and Great Expectations both in gr 4.. if you ask me thats just torture, i could barely read a full sentence in great expectations last year without my eyes tearing up and looking through the dictionary, and i was 16 then :P
good luck to you
