YES, I'M A BAD AMERICAN
by: George Carlin

I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American. I am George
Carlin.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some
mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way!

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a
smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized,
and does not entitle you to anything.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac in this country,
do it in English.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when
and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and whoever
canceled Jerry Springer.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time watching or
arguing about it.

I've never owned a slave, or was! a slave , I haven't burned any
witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut up
already.

I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to
where you came from and change your own country! This is AMERICA .

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend
Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part
of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry rear if
you're running from them..

I also think they have the right to pull you over if you're
breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers
license. I think it's good..... and I'm proud that "God" is written on my
money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I
don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in
the world for the next four years.

I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to
sell me stuff or trying to guilt me into making "donations" to their cause.

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it
takes two parents.

And what is going on with gas prices... again?

I believe "illegal" is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in
AMERICA !

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.

I'm a bad american... can i get an AMEN?

Hmm, i agree with some of that but not all of it.

in particular, here is what i take issue with:

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some
mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

i used to believe this, but the welfare of everyone really does affect our individual welfare. the better everyone has it, the better we all have it. the more money we pump into education, the smarter and more employable our country will be. the more money we pump into improving health care, the more effective and healthy our workforce will be, as well make it more difficult for disease to spread.

now i don't think we should throw money recklessly at the government, but if taxes are used to benefit the population as a whole then i have no problem with it. that being said, i HATE the idea of handouts.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac in this country,
do it in English.

that ship has sailed, we are a bilingual country now. i think spanish should be taught in from kindergarten and up now, particularly in the southwest. our indecision in protecting our culture and borders has caused this and it's too late to go back now. we have to adapt and deal with it at this point.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when
and where they want to.

i've said this time and time again, but i believe religion is destroying the western world - islam, judiasm, and christianity, it's all done nothing but cause violence and destruction. it preys on the ignorant and stupid. it always has been and always will be the opiate of the masses, and the stakes are higher than ever right now. all this war, all this death, all for what? a bunch of fucking fairy tales. i think the world can do with less praying.

I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to
where you came from and change your own country! This is AMERICA .

the definition of america is a very loose one and it changes with time. personally, i'm disgusted with this country and am slowly trying to become what i like to refer to as an "international citizen," or one who is not dependent on any one nation to survive. the end is nigh and this rat here is getting ready to jump ship.

And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers
license. I think it's good..... and I'm proud that "God" is written on my
money.

first part i couldn't agree with more. second part is nothing more than antiquated relic of our past. we got rid of slavery, another "value" our country was founded on, why not religion too? at the very least, i'd like to see the first interpreted the way it should be. (freedom OF religion is just as important as freedom FROM religion).

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it
takes two parents.

sadly, not everyone is born in fucking mayberry. sometimes you have to deal with what you get. and just because you're a biological parent doesn't mean you're qualified to raise a kid in my opinion. my sister (a nurse) has told me horror stories of some the situations kids come to the hospital in (i.e. abuse and neglect), all at the hands of their biological parents.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in
AMERICA !

WOOT AMERICA FUCK YEAH! LETS KICK SOME ASS!! WOOT!!

/sarcasm

nationalism is a dangerous thing when unchecked. almost as bad as religion, but not quite. just because you belong to a particular nation doesn't magically justify any position it takes or any action it makes. nor does a proud history validate a corrupt present.

George Carlin is a stand-up comedian.

He also was Mr. Conductor on Shining time Station with the shorts of Thomas the Tank Engine.

He is NOT a rapper.

He is an old white guy.

I think having guns doesn't make you a smart American. If no one was allowed guns except the cops, no one would be able to shoot anyone anyway.

But yes, you flag-waving Americans, keep thinking "We're free! We're free! We live in a democracy!" We'll just laugh from our other countries.

That right there is enough for me to disregard almost your entire argument...Why? Because it is a baseless assumption, so is your "a bunch of fucking fairy tales" statement...Honestly if you want to make an argument like you just did, you gotta have proof and well that is the one thing that you are severely lacking. What you wrote is just as much a piece of opinionated bullshit as the original piece, and yet you threw in "statements of fact" or at least that is how you made them sound with your absolute statements...

Oh well, I guess that you are entitled to your cynical craziness...Personally, I'll live in reality thank you...

Good luck getting that to work. We don't all live in Thomas Moore's Utopia, but good on you thinking that it is possible... *again rolls eyes*

Uh huh, yeah...BTW we'll just sit over here on our butts and laugh at how we have it better than the rest of you...We make more money...We get whatever we want...More people emigrate here than to anywhere else for a reason...Yeah, it sure is terrible over here...

I disagree. I think Thomas Jefferson sums up my opinion of the matter pretty well:

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

That and i believe a citizen needs to have the power to resist their government. In an ideal world, the government only has the best interest of it's people in mind. I think it should be pretty clear that government seldom (if ever) has the best interest in mind, therefore it's necessary to be able to resist them.

Now that being said, I think greater effort needs to be made to keep dangerous criminals out of society and prevent the sale of firearms to those who shouldn't have them (i.e. felons and the mentally ill). Jails have rotating doors right now and our laws are too lax regarding firearms. Instead of blaming the criminal or the ineffective laws, we instead try to blame the tool used to commit these violent acts - that's treating the symptom and not cause and will get us nowhere.

I've participated in countless religious debates in this forum and didn't see the need to repeat myself yet again. If you really want to know why I believe what I believe, dig up one of those old threads.

Within the next 5-10 years, you're going to see the US economy crash. Within the next 25-50, the US will no longer be the premier world super power. Laugh all you want, but remember my time table.

My prediction is China is going to invade a neighboring country sometime after the olympics. They have a trillion dollars laying around. We won't be in a position to protest or take action since they can destroy our economy at will (and now we're more dependent on them then they are on us). Just watch, I'll bet this happens within the next few years. This will be the official beginning of the US's fall.

Our people are apathetic, our economy is a sky scraper made of paper mache, and our government is thoroughly and completely corrupt. Other countries have the resolve, the determination and the resources to get on top. It's only a matter of time before we get knocked down off our pedestal. Our lack of resolve, ignorance and greed have caused every bit of this. We are Rome in the final days and at this point it's impossible for us to go back.

Ok az.... for one it may be an e-mail chain somewhere, but i copied it down while i was watching him on Comedy central. (the strange things you do at 3:30 am when you can't sleep)
So i know this is from his mouth.
It's not SUPPOSED TO BE LITERAL.
That's why it's called SARCASTIC HUMOR.

I agree with quite a few things he said, but i'm sure everyone knows my views on guns already.

And fyi.... i completely totally and UTTERLY disagree with you on the language thing. Period. I hate that i have to order my damned chicken sandwich : uno pollo, con queso, no mayonasa. eh coca. uno poquito eh chocolate milk. (and happy meal w/ choc milk for my daughter)
I HATE THAT!
When i go to another country i LEARN THE FUCKING LANGUAGE. I intend on moving abroad, whereever i end up going, i will LEARN THE LANGUAGE. I might speak English at home, but i won't make a fuss because i can't read the street signs in whatever language.
To me this is a very sore point. It's obvious you live in the northern states.
I used to live in Texas, where spanish language was everywhere.
I used to have people come to my door to sell me tamales and couldn't speak a WORD of english. The only way we could converse was in Spanish.
I don't know much spanish, nor do i have much of a desire to learn it.
I know those spanish speaking people are intelligent. They can learn english too. there are TONS of ESL classes available FOR FREE, all they have to do is GO.
I understand that those people need to work, that's all fnie and dandy, but if they want to work in a customer service based industry... they need to speak the language of 90% of their customers. and the OFFICIAL language of the country they are working in.
It's also part of the citizenship test, it's not offered in Spanish...
THEY NEED TO ADAPT!!!!!!
Not me.

yeah i know you don't necessarily agree with everything that list said duster. i'll edit my post since you know it did come from george carlin.

i agree that it's not right that we have to learn spanish, i just think it's too late at this point and we need to adapt to the situation at hand, paricularly in the southwest where it already is bilingual. for the record, i've lived in phoenix, LA, Florida, and San Antonio... so I'm quite used to having to deal with spanish.

Our lack of resolve, ignorance and greed have caused every bit of this. We are Rome in the final days and at this point it's impossible for us to go back.

Case in point: Which is easier to destroy in a world of international trade? A largely producer economy or largely consumer economy? I would say that it is the former...China has only a few countries that it is capable of sending the majority of its goods to and turning a profit; the United States is chief among them. We, the United States, are the lifeline of China. When we stop buying certain products and it puts Chinese workers out of work. When our junk bonds hit rock bottom it hurts China tremendously (it just happened recently and don't try to say it didn't)...The United States consumes 1/5 of the entire world's products and resources yearly (more than twice China's consumption rate) and we can always find new providers for our "fix"...The United States has the world's third largest oil reserves (after Saudi Arabia and Russia), the world's largest coal reserves, the world's second largest natural gas reserves (again after Russia)...We produce [and use] more electrical energy than the next three leading countries! Our military is unquestionably the most powerful and most advanced military man has ever seen, and it likely will stay that way for a while...And you are saying that China is just going to topple America like it is a "paper machet skyscraper"? I call that ignorance...

Now I will grant you that China will definitely contest for the title of "#1" but it won't have an easy time over it. I will also grant you that China will likely make a territory/resource grab in the near future (likely into Siberia)...But you can not rule out the fact that Russia is and increasingly is becoming just as much of a player again...Likely you won't see any changes happening over night in the respect of one country suddenly eclipsing another in terms of power, rather it is more likely that we will end up seeing a three way stalemate between three super powers that will not like each other...Russia is already "teaching" its people that the United States and China are enemies #1 and #2. Russia is already making grabs at more resources (cite: Arctic Ocean oil). China is making some rather shady moves and definitely has stuff in the works. And it is only a matter before we, the United States, realize the threat that these countries pose and begin taking actions of our own...

You compare us to Rome on the brink of its downfall as an empire...I compare us to Rome when it was on the brink of war with Carthage; a young democratic republic taking on an enemy of comparable strength and facing a war of annihilation...The Cold War was just the beginning really...Now the fun beings...
