As Aristotle and many others since have said, everything we do is ultimately aimed at happiness.

It seems to be of the utmost of importance, but what is happiness exactly?

Is it really the greatest thing in life, like many many people will tell you, or is there something better?

How does one achieve it? Or is it more a way of living then being able to achieve it?

Feel free to type away on any related aspect. Just interested in seeing what some of you guys think.

There's two different types of happiness.

1. When you get a new video game or something like that.

2. True happiness, one of those things you, individually have to answer or you just keep looking for.

It's as simple as that really.

That wikipedia link is the only thing close to explaining actual happiness.

But can you actually picture yourself being that happy ?

Everything Opposite from happy would be pointless and only just another one of those questions.

well, it's not that there is something better than happiness, it's just that I think there are different levels of happiness and not all of them have equal value. you know, like the idea of lower and higher pleasures.
I'll probably edit this later, but I wanted to type a long post but you already linked the TED talks.

These are the direct talk links in Google video by the way (just 20 min each, don't be lazy and watch them)

been watching shoujo lately? :P

marilyn manson once said that happiness should be a psychological disorder. he doesn't enjoy things. rather, he gets fulfilled by things. i've been thinking about it, and it could be a reference to a stoic way of thinking. i don't exactly disagree.

haha. well if you think about it, it's not too weird. it depends on your definition of happiness, i guess. or rather, "true happiness." if you idealize the concept of happiness too much, it becomes almost artificial.

Why won't you just make a post about feelings ?

Happiness is a feeling so is pain, sadness and joy etc.

If people and you do not know what happiness is; what makes feeling any different ?

^ you're missing the point, a thread about feelings is too broad. I bet you did not watch the videos.

I *edit: Have you tried the link given in the first post?
