Suzaku from Code Geass!

For some reason (though I understand in a way) Suzaku is hated. But really, if you think about it, he was a good friend to Lulu and Lulu betrayed him first (Zero and whatnot). On top of that, he's not a bad person (ignore his sense of justice). His refusal to join the Black Knights was justified too, didn't people see them as a terrorist group?

So I can't understand why people hate him so much.

He betrayed everyone living in Japan the moment he decided he has the right to decide the fate of the country by killing his father. He's hardly doing things for the sake of justice, every action of his to help other people stems from his guilt of killing his father. I would hardly consider him underrated, he deserves most of the hate he gets. It's not so much that his sense of justice that's annoying, it's the fact that he's hypocritical and arrogant, while trying to hide that fact.

Lelouch betrayed him? Lelouch had multiple chances to kill him or render him completely useless. He didn't do so out of their friendship. Not to mention the fact that Lelouch having saved him as Zero a couple of times already, once during his execution and once during the Chinese attack.

That's true. But on the other hand, if he hadn't killed his father, war/massacre would have started right? Even though Britannia took over, he prevented what would have been a bloodbath. And yes, he does feel guilty, but he's repenting and feeling the burden all the time. Doesn't that deserve some pity at least? (I came by a Suzaku should die topic). Suzaku also saved a lot of people too (he saved the woman from falling ex)

(don't get me wrong, Lelouch is my favorite character, but Suzaku deserves some thought too!)

So to save people, you kill the people's leader so they don't get to choose their own fate? The Japanese wanted to fight, he stripped away their ability to do so. Just so you know, Japan being rebellious results from the fact that they never had a chance to defend themselves, due to the assassination. I'm sure quite a number of people died in the rebellions that ensued. How did that actually help the people there?

He did save people, the problem lies in why. That's like someone saving someone for a reward, but the reward here is for him to retain his sanity. He's feeling guilty yet he's still being hypocritical. He was the reason the Japanese were denied the chance of fighting Britannia during the invasion and does so again after so many years, by preventing the rebellion.

He feels pity, guilt, and burden? I'm sure Lelouch feels so too after killing his half-sister that he deeply cares about. Does Suzaku care? Nope.

But the rebellion has nothing to do with Suzaku, Lelouch started it so the blame can't be put on him. And the reason Suzaku is fighitng is because Lelouch started the whole Black Knights. So can you really say that he is responsible? If Lelouch hadn't rebelled, people wouldn't be dying. As for a reward to retain his sanity, it's because he has a conscience! He can't bare to just let someone die.
And you can't say Suzaku doesn't care, because he doesn't know it was an accident.

Rebellious as in terrorism from the Japanese, those started long before Lelouch became Zero. Suzaku also joined the military long before Lelouch formed the Black Knights. People have been dying before Zero came, he just made the deaths meaningful. Conscience? You mean like starting to kill everyone who gets in his way after Euphemia died? Joining the 12 Knights of the Round and working with the king? I'm sure they are a pacifist organization, that goes around helping people and not killing people.

Lelouch also has a conscience, he actually feels bad for people who die. He just believes the end justifies the means. While Suzaku naively believes that status quo is going to change anything.

Admit it, he's selfish and arrogant but puts on a facade as someone representing justice. His perception that his way is the right way. The main reason why he hates the rebellion is because of the fact that if the rebellion is succeeds then the killing of his father is all for naught, hence admitting that what he did was wrong. He wants to continue deluding the fact that what he did was better for Japan and resistance against tyranny is a bad thing.

There's no need to create the 'Most blah, blah, blah thread anymore, since we already have a thread for underrated characters.

Thanks for the link!
