ANN was really vicious and Vic was really evasive. The whole interview was really dodgy, and Vu's lack of comments didn't help things on either side.

the interviewer sometimes came of as hostile and let his own feelings interfere with his interview. He was also too repetitve as if asking the same question would produce a different answer.
I did find it funny that some of the people who are soo against crunchyroll, still come here and support them by watching their videos.

I have seen some of his other interviews with subbers and what pisses me off is that the subbers are upset with crunchyroll, for charging money, yet arent the subbers stealing money from the animators??

someone in one of the previous posts said people who stream/download anime do not support anime as an art form. If that is the case then wouldnt fans who download and the fansubbers take equal responsibility for the decrease in anime sales?? How can you put all the blame on a fan when something is provided to them for free??

I understand it is an unwritten code not to sell or redistribute fansubbed anime, however arent their some subbers that willing donate their fansubs to sites such as crunchyroll, veoh, and youtube?

In an essence dont they all need each other? the animators need the subbers to promote their work? the subbers need sites such as crunchyroll, veoh, and youtube, to promote anime and further promote their work. and the sites such as veoh, crunchyroll, and youtube, need the subber, and animators to stay in business.
Do not take this the the wrong way, i have A LOT of respect for the fansubbers. Just do not whine about someone taking something from you when your taking something from someone else.

I don't think the interview came off as hostile at all. I've read much worse in magazines and I've watched some pretty harsh ones on TV. The thing is if you want answers than you ask the harsh questions. I think some of it was a bit repetitive because the original questions weren't being answered or answered fully at all. These are questions that most people outside of CR would like answered especially considering it's history and recent team up with Gonzo.

I think fansubbers are upset at CR because they don't follow the code of ethics at all. Majority of fansubbers do know that in some way they are hurting the industry but at least they take down and stop subbing the series when it's licensed, they don't ask for money because they know it's really not right considering it's not theirs. Most fansubbers who follow the code of ethics do not upload their stuff on to sites like CR or Youtube because those are put on by other users.

Also, even though it's offered for free I think fans are able to decide for themselves whether or not they want to( or should) download and stream anime. Most of the blame isn't put on fans, but too many fans don't bother to buy the series after watching it, particularly on CR.

I have read a few "hard hitting" interviews, the difference for me is, in those articles, i get the sense that the interviewer is being relentless but professional. Maybe i am wrong for expecting a lot of professionalism from a simple interview. After the interview i had to read some of the comments left by the interviewer, and after reading them it just proved my point that he was very emotional about the topic...not necessarily a bad thing but also not the best thing because it causes one to be biased.

I have been watching anime for a long time, and i have been purchasing it for awhile. All of the fansubbers that i know about ignore the fact that an anime is licensed, and continue to offer them to be downloaded which is how i am able to watch anime that have been licensed for years.

I do believe that the fans are to blame for the decrease in video sales, however when and anime in licensed it is usually behind in episodes. to the devout fans who lose their minds if they cant watch a new episode of that particular anime every week, it is hard to tell them sit still and wait for the dvd to catch up. also what about the kids who can not afford to purchase the box sets at 60 to 100 dollars?? You cant spoil people one minute then expect them to change their spolied ways the next minute.
There are some fansubbers who ask for donations to keep their sites running, there are also some that make it mandatory to pay. CR has never made anything mandatory.

Lol I responded on the ANN forums :p definitly see both sides of the issues but that interview seemed a bit harsh letting his own opinions influence the questions not truly professional and fair but more harsh and opinionative Hmm yah waited for a DVD boxed set takes forever specially when your watching an ongoing sereies where it could take a while to wait. And yah not everyone has 60 to 100 bucks everytime but we still need to support them when we can. And Cr has never made it mandatory so I agree with your point Hmm just noticed they get cheques and didnt know assets were 4 mill nice

I don't know, I think that's where I disagree. No matter how many times I read the interview questions they all seem very valid and it would make sense to ask those questions especially since CR's deal with Gonzo. Why didn't they remove the videos after they where requested to be reviewed? Why are there still some up? Why ask for donations -regardless of what it was used for- to access high res feeds of both fansubs and licensed content? I don't think any of it was really opinionated because these are issues that CR does have and many would ask especially now that they are trying to do business with the Japanese companies.

Yes, there are many fansubbers who do not hold up the rule to remove the content that when it's licensed but they do not make up the majority. All of the fansubbers I've watched from for the past few years have stopped subbing when the licensed is announced.

For devout fans who need there weekly fix of anime I can't really say there is much of solution for that. Unless companies can find a completely legal way to offer anime that works without them losing money I can't really see a way to fix that problem. For kids who can't afford the anime box sets and DVDS....umm oh well? There really isn't any other solution to that except, save up money, get a job, or just not get it at all. That's how it was before fansubs became so readily available. If they decide to watch the whole series online and stay kept up with the episodes they should at least make the effort to support the series and buy it when it's released. I'm not sure about Canada and other countries but in the US there are a good number of rental services that are fairly cheap and a good way to watch anime. For example: Netflix has a very large library of anime DVDs and boxets that are available for rental.
