How would feel and treat a mentally disabled brother or sister
Posted 8/30/09
I'll treat him/her normally. But constantly feel sad.
Oh wells. Lolololol. He/She is still my bro/sis.

Well, I'd be nicer than I am to my non-mentally disabled siblings. I'd probably give them a bit of special treatment, but still try to treat them like a sibling in ways. Idk, this question is hard.

To be honest, for those who say that you'd just treat your mentally disabled sibling as a normal sibling...well, it's actually hard to treat him/her like normal.

My sister has autism and it's just hard to communicate with her, especially since there are many children with down syndrome or autism who lack social skills. I try...but it gets frustrating. There are times when I wish I could tell her about my day, complain, or gossip. But she doesn't get half of what I say and she can't really respond either.

I don't have one,but I would treat them the same like I would treat anyone. It doesen't mean that theri disabled that they can get away with eating my cake !! I really don't know about different disabilities, but I nkow most would be frustratong to handle at times, but I would help them in any way

just ignore

In this scenario I would be a compassionate and understanding brother. I mean who wants to be alone and dejected, most of all from their family for being crazy? It's unfair and very inhumane to ignore them like their only part human or half-alive. Deep down we all want to be accepted now matter what mental or physical infliction we have befall us. Think of yourself really.

You beat me to it, I would ignore them. If I have a mentally disabled sibling, thats my parents problem. But if it were my niece or nephew, or my son or daughter. I would do everything I could to make them feel loved. Being siblings is always about being able to talk and love eachother, if your sibling cant talk with you then you can't love them. There no such thing as loving someone you cant communicate with. Unless its a baby.

Everything I just said made me sound like a dickhead, enjoy being mad at me.

Eh..... I don't really know. Probably a lot differently than I treat my normal sister. I mean, I'd have to make sure s/he doesn't hurt him/herself or set fire to something or get lost. Luckily, my mum works with those sorts of kids a lot (as a nurse), so she'd be able to handle it.

Like a normal one but with
more compassion and care

Pretend he's normal, try to think he is. Protect him maybe? From bullies. Care for him/her more.

In real life, I have mental disabled brother. He has autism..
Its pretty tough and its not easy to handle.
I'm afraid I still have regrets of having a brother like him.. I feel sorry for him..
But hey you can't blame me. I'm also a victim. Its pretty much a personal problem. So this is all I can say..

care for them! of course! I see ome ppl like totally ignore their mentally/physically disabled siblings and it peeves me off so bad! i mean woundl't you want someone to care for you if your like that!

and yea some peopl say that its hard on them and what not, and i agree it would be and you probably would get tired of them, but thats no reason to treat them badly and/or ignore them. Humantiy is scarce these days
