discuss the news

Heres the first bit of news that has been brought to the discussion table that started in the random conv.

ANN=Anime News Network

Look at this recent interview

wow.... just wow....

though I found an answer to the CR supporters... It's on page three>.<

ajpointless wrote:

WTF!!!!!!!

That asshole seriously put together an Pre Planned all out attack method, scripted no less, and without even allowing Vu Nguyen to read it prior, and just slammed him with the sole purpose of doing nothing more other than trashing CR. Seriously!!! HOW MANY F'IN TIMES DID VU SAY THAT NOTHING IS EVER RESTRICTED!!! Not restricted, means THEY ARE NOT CHARGING FOR IT! Yet this retard constantly claimed that CR was charging for access to licenced and non licenced third party media. WHAT A PIECE OF SH*T! Then he continously bantered Vu on the same questions Vu said he could not comment on, which I can understand due to company policies, restrictions and and business currently taking place. I mean COME ONE!!! That was the worst attempt to bash someone I have ever seen!

romeoxjuliet wrote:

You should see the discussion in the forum there. The guy named Zac(who prepared the questions) tried to explain why he prepared such harsh questions

Spacewolves wrote:

Well... having stepped outside of the utopia that is CR... I guess those are quite pertinent questions... But I have a feeling this will just blow away. Most of CR is to oblivious to these things, either that... Or a huge influx of 13~14 year olds are going cry foul... Though after having taken down Naruto and Bleach, I have a feeling we aren't going to be hearing from a lot of them...

romeoxjuliet wrote:

Even if Naruto and Bleach is removed they can always watch it somewhere.Such overrated animes are not hard to find at all.All you need to do is to move that lazy fingers and google it.

Spacewolves wrote:

well yes, but the out cry from those fans that stayed on CR just for them here are calmed... for the most part...

ajpointless wrote:

I do agree that tough questions about ethics, morals, business rights, money and profit, etc., all must be asked at some point or another, however, this was not the case. This was a preplaned and well exicuted attack by an interviewer on a site which appearantly has a lot of users that generally dont like CR for some reason. I say, to each their own, but this guy had no right doing what he did. He blantly accused Vu and the other CR staff of stealing donated funds, pirating media and performing illigal actions. Vu clearly explained, within his limitations as a staff member of CR, that this was not so. They NEVER took any funds for personal use or profit, and he said so clearly and right away. ALL donations went straight to the site, and besides, THIER DONATIONS! PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!, if ANY media becomes licenced, or licenced media manages to get past filtering, it is taken down and never reloaded by CR. CR follows all requests by companies to NOT host if requested. And ONLY when CR became an actual business, did some of the staff quit their jobs to work for it full time and start getting paid to do so. The money paying them came from their investment contracts, NOT THE DONATIONS!

Their are HUNDREDS of other sites that do the same thing and far worse, look at what happened to TV-Links! I would say that CR is very responsible in its actions so far and on the right track towards working with the actual companies themselves, as well as the individual fan sub groups.

This guy was just some ass out to try and bash CR for one reason or another.

romeoxjuliet wrote:

I was quite a frequent visitor to ANN,and i can clearly tell you almost 99% members there bash CR like shit. They feel that paying for something that you can buy and in better quality is totally absurd.

Newbie site like CR is always targeted.I assume the reason why they want to attack Crunchyroll badly is because other sites like Veoh does not accept payment

ajpointless wrote:

This is true. Even though Veoh doesnt accept payments of any kind, they are still a large site that is not restricted to any one type of media. CR was started for the purpose of bringing asia media only to the rest of the world, anime originally, but then branched out from there. So CR is unique really and I am very happy it is around.

Spacewolves wrote:

Well... I agree with both of you for both your guys points... @sammi... I don't want to bash Naruto to hard right now, just cause we started to get the large influx of activity... But ya, Naruto hasn't done any good to anime's reputation in America, or around the world for that matter... I haven't watched a single episode of Bleach, so I can't comment on that...

@AJ... I know exactly what you mean... Donations are voluntary, not matter how you look at it. There wasn't even that much soliciting going on. It was either if you really wanted Hi Res, or if you wanted to help out CR, then you would have to drop $6 a month. When I came in, which was around February, everything seemed to going good for CR. But I guess that's around the time when CR got the investors. So they were starting to work full time. And the matter of CR being a hive for unwarranted "piracy" shouldn't be much a question of concern. I see CR as the model as how things are going. They are working at it to keep things as legit as possible, and they seem to be moving forward, and not trying to look back. They keep the licensed anime down as best to their abilities, and there are just some that none of us have heard of. And if the company that licenses isn't concerned enough to notice, or contact CR about some way to fix the problem, then CR should be given some more leeway.

Regardless of the situation, I hope this doesn't go up in flames, and leaving us with no more CR...

ajpointless wrote:

I dont think it will.

Spacewolves wrote:

ya... I just added that last statement cause it looked like kind of a bare conclusion without it...

romeoxjuliet wrote:

It is pretty much known to most people that it is ANN's style to TWIST and TURN their questions. So i am not paying too much attention on this one

ajpointless wrote:

Well, this is my first experience with one of ANN's interviewing staff and quite frankly, im appualed. so "F" em... ... ...and everything that looks like em.

Thats all iz gots to say abouts that...

romeoxjuliet wrote:

The interview with fansubber is pretty good too.I like that one

Quote from one of the ANN member

All that guys at crunchyroll ever wanted was to be a "cool" place to hang out for idiotic anime "fans" who are too lazy or stupid to figure out how to run a torrent to download a CCCP pack, and too lazy or broke to get a job and actually buy DVD's. Don't try to make it like they are doing the community some sort of favor by providing some trail blazing service. It's a place for lazy little punks to get their quick anime fix without having to actually think or work for it, and is competely disrespectful to every other segment of the anime community.

Just checking out their forums or comments on the videos for 5 minutes will tell you what kind of people frequent that site. I don't know what GONZO is thinking by putting up their content there, I guarentee you that almost none of the people that frequent that site will EVER pay ANYTHING for anime if they can possibly avoid it

Aww....we are such person

Well the ads are paying for GONZO's appearance here... so I'm not complaining^^

And yes, I refuse to go find and torrent terrabytes worth of anime, only to be found by my family... and have to explain the awkward situation to them...

Well no... not the fact the I watch anime... Everyone in my family knows that... It's just a bitch to keep explaining to them what torrenting is... and to calm them down about the fact that what I'm doing technically what I do is "illegal"...

Well, for me I torrent everything else... Movies... Games... Software... and of course music... So 40% of the stuff on my harddrive is pirated...

Though It also doesn't take that much time... since I have Comcast Cable...

I try my best to buy them, when i have money in my pocket.

But you know, time and again i am just so disappointed by the quality of the DVD.Just the other day,i bought Sabrina,an english movie.Everything is good, until the end.I couldn't see the most crucial part where they made up and kiss! And this happened to other DVD i owned like Titanic. When i download, the quality is much better

eh, I dont torrent. Dont even really know how to, I just know that I never got into it and prefer to save the space on my hard drive for other things. My music, recordings, my photos and photographic work, my videos, etc. If I do download a movie or show, it goes straight to a dvd via my dvd/rw burner...

What are you buying pirated films? I got a few of those when I was in korea, the UAE and Iraq... I tell you, that is a total waste! I ALWAYS get the real film on dvd. Course, here in the States, there is virtually no pirate market for hollywood films. Hell, even independant films are released in High Def now.

Haha see! Oji-san is a perfect title for u aj!!!

*sigh* I could teach you how to use torrenting... and if your actually torrenting the right things and keeping the right things on your hard drive... you shouldn't have a problem xD!!

I'm a graphic artist, so I got quite a lot of images... I think 20,000 in total number of files... But since they're all either compressed, or already Jpegs, they take up around 2~3gigs... So hehe, I could keep downloading more xD

As for music... I've got a dozen gigs worth or so... but it depends from person to person how much they store...

Other media files vary as well... videos and recordings might add up... But nothing sucks up space like software... *sigh* Photoshop is a pretty huge file, not including plug-ins and all the other doodads...

But if you have a lot... get a separate storage hard drive to store things on, preferably something fast... 140,000RPM quarter terrabyte hard drives are really worth the investment... I have a 70gig one... and I'm just about to fill it up, that's why I'm getting a top end PC before I go off to college^^

It IS DVD,and it is not cheap damn it.Believe it or not,the pirated version is better than the DVD one.I dont know why but all my DVD collection are crap.Like in Titanic,i can't see the part when the ship sinks!
