Actually cats seek warmth and food. If they know where to get it, they will continue coming. Which is why they generally stay with their owners. Unlike dogs, they have their predator skills intact and don't need humans as long as they can get warmth and food. A nature programme I saw stated that they don't really have much loyalty at all, they just see how convinient it is to come home when they are through strolling the street. Dogs however are loyal, and although some of them can make it one their own, it would be hugely inconvinient.

Before you make the "link", I don't have any pets. I had mice when I was 7. And once when I was 14, but those weren't pets.

Pets usually live sad lives anyways. Their lives is very restricted. The dog wags it tail when someone comes home, because it spends it days locked up in an apartment. Some in cages. Don't get me started on goldfish and birds. Cats, being allowed out, are probably pretty happy actually. I guess I can support cat ownership. The saddest thing to watch is ferrets. See them try to get loose from the collar. They are born to be active, to scurry and explore. The very suggestion that ferrets can be happy is bizarre for anyone who can see their personality or have seen them in a programme.

I guess my point is to blame people for treating their pets badly is one thing, but the very assumption that pets are generally happy is bizarre. But I can make allowances for pets allowed to roam free. I guess they deserve to continue happy lives.

Yeah it annoys me to no end when people just abandon their kitties. it hurts me more when I cannot take a kitty in because my apartment might evict me if I don't pay a $500 pet deposit.

I know there are a variety of reasons as to why people do that to kitties. The first and foremost is most people hate cats, when they are not kittens. They view cats as lesser beings because they cannot train them, as well as most cats are small. So in most peoples minds cats are lesser beings. I mean there are reasons why, the first and foremost is that you have to earn a cats love. Just feeding a cat is not enough. In reality you have to be a fairly active part of a cats life in order to get love and affection. Not like with other pets where you do not even have to feed them to get their love.

I just think that most people hate how smart cats are. I love cats because I am smart and know how to earn their love. People just hump dogs too much because dogs are morons. And stupid things are easier to enslave.

What I can say on abandoned cats is that most aren't abandoned. They were either born on the streets, or ran away from an owner (or the owner lost them). Also, most cats are a lot better at surviving on their own than dogs are.

It's hard when they runaway, but it's a little funny when spca keeps calling 6 months later cuz they think they found your cat but it actually is another cat that looks a tad uglier than your lost cat, but then i wanna take the poor ugly cat home as well, but can't.. not to mention u have to pay more now when adopting and pay a yearly liscense now. poor kitties..
k back on the subject:
People who abondon there pets piss me off sometime because they shouldn't have gotten them in the first place jeez.
I have a cat now i would never abandon him.

I've had to give up my cats in the past, I just take them to an animal shelter that doesn't euthanize them(doesn't put them to sleep).
It's more difficult than people think though. I had to beg them to take them. Every shelter kept telling me they're too full to take in anymore. I finally annoyed them enough that they gave in.

many people adopt the stray one but i feel sorry for those who were not. we have a lot of cats, I love them, one is pregnant, but they come and go as they please. we gave them that freedom.
