It's important to note that dogs like this are raised as livestock and not as pets.

Just in case you think they're killing sparky.

Regardless of how you changed the topic, you're discussing an issue in the Philippines from a foreigner's perspective. I don't see how any reasonable discussion can come about from it since gross generalizations and (most probably) shallow comments will be brought up.

Whatever. First instance of something degratory or offensive, and this thread is gone. It's like jumping into the fireplace...

I know you are offended by this but it's not about trying to degrade your culter it's about bringing an ilegale subject to light , discussing it , and maybe finding ways to stop it.

some people in the Philippines eat dogs because like there are a lot of poor people and they have nothing else to eat, usually they're stray dogs. I think its bad, but i guess if you have nothing else to eat, you eat whatever is there. >_<'

Well if its illegal, its illegal. But seriously, dogs are animals too. We can eat them just as much as we eat Betsy the cow or Fluffy the rabbit. So in the places that are not illegal such as Korea or China, they can feel free to eat it.

Eating dogs don't make you less humane, but criticizing over it might make the criticizer a hypocrite.

And yes most of the dogs in Korea and China are farm raised to be eatten.

My comment wasn't shallow.

Anyway, the only people who ever eat dog meat are drunkards. They eat this while drinking beer, apparently.
I saw a documentary tackling this issue before.
Therefore people are made aware so it's not like they don't care.

Oh, just on the side...
I hate it when people ask me, "You're Filipino? Ew, you eat dog meat!"
It's like, stfu.
NOT ALL FILIPINOS EAT DOG MEAT
Whoever thinks otherwise must be smacked in the head with an axe :@

Funny how people are for free speech until they see something that they disagree with.

It's a legitimate subject and I'm sure there's more than enough Filipinos who can throw in their two cents on the subject.

@ waffle: I understand you're point, but I'm not sure if other users do or will see the point of this thread in the same light, which is why I'll be keeping my eye on this thread.

And just to make it clear, I'm not avoiding this discussion because I want to deny it. I've seen documentaries and have actually witnessed people eating dogs so it hurts me also to find such form of butchery being practiced among some Filipinos. And, as a future doctor, the medical implications of eating dog meat are quite severe. Many parasitic/bacterial infections have been transmitted through eating dogs, but it is strange why some individuals still find pleasure in eating them.

@ j3ss: I wasn't pointing any fingers, and I didn't say your comment was shallow. I was simply stating what I'm afraid of might happen. Look at previous posts by Monkey-of-evil. Those are shallow posts, and now I'm pointing a finger.

^ You should take it ed. The world sees it as it is bcos they have lots of proof. If you want to raise our dignity against the bad comments, do something. Have you done something for the benefits of these animals? What do you do when you see an 'askal' around your neighborhood?

Accept the criticisms cos we have our own faults since we don't really care.

And that's all the more reason to bring the subject up and educate people on the dangers. See , you're helping things out here. =)

@ simpleyesa: I don't see how redirecting the issue to me has anything to do with discussing this topic. It's like me asking you if you've done anything to help the country because of the corruption it is facing.

Yes, yesa, I have done something for these animals. I volunteered once in PARC (Philippine Animal Rehabilitation Center) where we help stray or abused animals and nurse them back to health. Why do you grossly assume that I'm just ranting and not doing anything? Yet again, I have been offended.

Plus, I never stated it as if I were denying the criticisms against Filipinos eating dog meat. I simply said that ignorant people who probably don't even BOTHER to read or watch the video of the first post will post all sorts of crap in this thread. I've seen sensitive topics like this meet bloody ends just because the thread topic was insensitive to begin with.

I'm just making it clear that I'll be ready to lock this thread when the discussion introduces too much generalizations, unsupported truths and shallow statements. I condone the discussion of the issue, but I don't condone closed comments from a narrow point of view.

I used to live in the Philippines 8 years ago. Well, in my block (Las Pinas, Metro Manila, Philippines), mostly druken old farts liked to sport this dog-eating thing.
What do you expect? They're drunk. They'll do something outrageous for the ol' "good times" sake.

personally, i think talking about things, isn't going to change it.
dog and cows are both animals. really, they have no differents.
why, do people eat cows. but when think about eating dogs and go "ewww"
