Heh, I certainly don't think so. IQ tests only tell how you think. It's not like just because your IQ test scores are low, you're stupid. It's just whether you think accordingly to how the IQ test wants you to think. It just means you can think better logically.

I wouldn't know because I've never taken one (besides those minor internet ones) but if it requires subjects such as mathematics and science then I think it would be inaccurate because to me intelligence doesn't only come from a book.

I.Q Tests gives you an idea of how much your overall mental capacity is. If it's well-distributed, or if you are good in that field, better in this etc.
It's somewhat accurate in a way, and majority of the well-known geniuses have high I.Qs (Einstein, Hawking, da Vinci, Washington, Franklin, et cetera). I mean I.Q tests are either -5 or +5, meaning if you get 120, your true I.Q could either be 115 or 125.

And once you're I.Q is below 70, you're considered to have mental retardation. And statistically speaking, most people who have an I.Q below 70 are mentally retarded.

But then again, it depends on the person him/herself. Some people with high I.Q are so lazy and some with the lower I.Qs are the hardworking. I guess I.Q tests just gives you a more specific idea of how much you could stretch your mental capacity. (-_-")

Being intelligent and being smart is different anyways. (-__-")

no there are knowledge that test cant show and that knowledge of life and how to be a better person
sure good test result are good
but some aren't good with test but a more knowledge with life and how to live a better one then that person is way smarter then the one with good score on test since we only live life once

mmmm...what do u think?

personally im skeptical about it...

look at this:
•William James Sidis – known to have an IQ of 250+
•Albert Einstein – known to have an IQ of 165+, formulated the Theory of Relativity
•Richard Feynman – known to have an IQ of 125 (or lower), expanded the Theory of Quantum Electrodynamics

hmm...how can they actually say Sidis' IQ is 250+? given the fact that Sidis' has not contributed much to new discoveries or such, i think Einstein is more intelligent than he is...and how come Feynman was able to expand the Theory of Quantum Electrodynamics if his IQ's just the same with that of my classmate, huh?(note:my classmate took a credible IQ test when he took a norweigian scholarship)
so what's wrong?

these arguments may seem shallow but this is just how i see it...so please dont bother condemning me for being ignorant or something...go easy on me...

can intelligence be really given a quantitative measure?feel free to express ur opinions...

Edit:

okay okay...IQ tests are not entirely accurate as u all say...they can give varying scores every now and then ...but...they say IQ tests are intended to determine your level of intelligence--yes, they may not give an exact measure but they somewhat "group" people ..like for example, if your IQ score is 145-159, you are sed 2 be "highly gifted"...

now that makes me wonder...are IQ tests really reliable when it comes to determining a person's level of intelligence?

IQ (intelligence quotient) = (Mental Age / Chronological Age) x 100.

IQ is relative to all terms. The IQ of a child between the ages of 5 to 16 years old is calculated by dividing the child's mental age by his chronological age and then multiplying the result by 100. If a 10 year old child performs mentally at a 10 year old level, the IQ is calculated as 10 divided by 10 equaling 1, and multiplying the 1 by 100 equals an IQ of 100. If the 10 year old child mentally performs at a 20 year old level, then 20 over 10 equals 2, and multiplying 2 by 100 equals an IQ score of 200. Adult IQ is calculated by supervised IQ testing. Adult IQ scores are specific to each IQ test and are not interchangeable between one IQ test and another. Membership qualifications to most high IQ societies require percentile ratings instead of IQ scores. The IQ formula (MA/CA) x 100 = IQ was created as an indicator, not based on mathematical rules. The formula could have been (MA/CA)x10 or (MA/CA)x1000. IQ scores are relative numbers, of no real measurement other than to show relative differences of measurable mental performance between different people taking similar tests.

An IQ score of 100 is average. Only one person in the world has an average IQ. Half of everyone else has a higher IQ, and the other half has a lower IQ. As IQ scores increase, so do opinions differ on what marks gifted and genius. IQ ratings are generally relative to the personal opinion and view of the person being asked (a 6'6" tall man may appear tall to a 5' tall man, but an 8' tall man thinks everyone to be short). Generally, average IQ is about 90 to 115, talented is about 115 to 125, gifted is about 125 to 140, and about 140+ is commonly believed as having the potential for genius. It is important to note that whatsoever environment a person lives in, it is that which the person will deem normal, and all terms about intellectual levels are only relative to the individual's own personal level.

Individuals with high IQs are humans just like everyone else, with similar personality strengths and weaknesses as everyone else. Some high IQers are nice, some are not so nice, and each individual has idiosyncrasies just as do all humans. They even get lazy and tired of taking test so sometimes they just put whatever. High levels of intelligence are commonly accompanied with a greater potential for simultaneously exhibiting above average skills in several fields (g and multiple intelligence). Extremely talented individuals do not easily recognize their own traits as being anything except common because there are no known higher levels of talent to compare the individual's talent to.

I was interested in philosophy, psychology, and IQ so I know. Got anymore question???

uh...does general intelligence factor or "g" really exist?

hey, why dint loki answer the question? i thought he knows....

Well they are fun, however I dont realy believe in the results (Im not saying that coz I got low IQ ).
Sometimes questions are repeated and you can learn them if you do the test a few times.
The worst kind are those online tests.....

But as Ive said before, they are fun ^^

online test are not that reliable. But if you want to have a vague idea of your iq, you can avail that. The result is no far off from your real iq. As long as you don't cheat of course. Wats ur iq?
