It is a shinsakuto nihonto. Which means it is a traditional made new sword made in Japan. Meaning it's not a historic reproduction. (Even Bugei's high quality swords are still reproductions if not traditionally made in the old style in Japan and registered. It's as real and authentic as it comes.

It was made in Aizu by Sekimoto Masahiro I think in 1967. I have the exact date of the sword's completion in my lockbox at the bank.

Sekimoto, now sadly dead, (NOT to be confused with those crappy low quality reproduction katana called "Masahiro" which are atleast not wallhangers and are real swords, but they are cheap quality.) hand forged it of the Shoshu method popularize by the famous Masamune Okazaki. (I'm sure you've heard the name. Or atleast the "Masamune" part in talk of swords. The guy is a legend in his own.)

The himo isn't tied correctly as I was showing the friend different ways to tie it since he asked what it was and asked "why are there two strings." Plus I don't have an obi on over it because of the same reason.
