Things I hate:

9. Hidden trophies/ achievements making me waste my time trying to find out what they really are -_-

^This!

Putting those in a game is stupid pointless. Hit up the Google and it's "Oh, so that's what I need to do to get that"

Also, enemy AI that is able to target you with pin-point accuracy and inflict damage repeatedly with zero margin of error while they are so far away they are no more than the size of a pixel on the horizon. I mean, I know it's computer AI and all but... cut us some slack every now and then.

When a game is fairly good but the gaming community whines about it because it didn't exceed their ridiculously high expectations.

When you play online and your opponent is a spammer. Oh and lag, man lag really pisses me off.

YES, also not just CoD, other shooters too. So many pretty meaningless numbers popping up on your screen and blocking your view;

KILL +10, ASSIST +5, REVENGE +20, GRENADE KILL +10, MULTIKILL +20, etc, etc

example:

(TBH though it works for BF3 because of the class system I just used the pic as an example, but for other shooters it's completely unneccesary)

Games designed in a way that allows competitive gamers to totally disregard the aesthetics and creative components in competitive multiplayer.

e.g. Warcraft III/Starcraft where instead of building a base that actually looks like a base, you have to use buildings like Lego blocks to block off your resources and so forth, making the base look absolutely ludicrous and utterly destroying any immersion in the creative elements of the game.
May as well just make all the models blank/gray 3D cubes that you slide around a blank 3D space. What's the point of giving them textures, voice quotes, sound effects and creative concepts if all you're going to do is use them as lifeless objects in a competition of APM or memorized manipulations?

This has to be my biggest pet peeve, since I'm inherently very competitive, but I can't stand it when games are dumbed down to simple button mashing or APM contests with total disregard for their immersive qualities.

The closest thing I've seen to remedy this so far is that Assassin's Creed III multiplayer mode, which actually punishes players for lacking creativity and wanting to play for the sake of fidgeting/APM.

If you want to compete at physical prowess, go play sports outside. The creative fantasy worlds within games should never be ignored, not even in the most heated of competitive play.

For me there's a laundry list, but these are the ones that grind my gears the worst.

* Invisible Walls
* AI companions that get in your way or get killed often (I'm looking at your Lydia)
* Crappy controls
* When a game is ported to the PC from game consoles and its got a really clunky UI that doesn't work well with mouse & keyboard
* Mobs that can spam special attacks while you have to wait longer to use your own (FFXI is bad for this)
* Poor or non-existent quest tracking in a game

People who select servers in DoTA when they dont even speak the language, Russian/Brazillian Portuguese on the US servers. In a game thats entirely dependant on team cohesion and communication play on the servers where you can actually communicate. ARGH

Hackers in online games. I once spectated a game of Mario Kart Wii and this dude literally flew across the whole map on rainbow road.
Cheating in simple games like Animal Crossing. If you're using cheat codes in games like GTA thats fine because they are quite entertaining. But if you are cloning items and getting a whole amount of money in AC while other people work hard. Im not ok with that. but whatever.
When a game development team adheres to the fans to rush to finish a game early. If people didn't do this, Sonic '06 might've not have been that bad. Those people who demand it be done early most likely never made a game before. So letting them effect your job isnt very smart.
^ This is pretty much about the people who make the games and who I play games with.

When you run out of HP/MP and all the pots/barrels or other breakable items dont give you what you're looking for.
Games that make you rely on teammates. This happens in games like DragonQuest IX where you either have to grind a whole lot or play with your friends. I don't have friends that have DQ9 so I had to grind a lot which I was not ok with.
When the AI or teammate glitches and doesnt let you proceed.
Savepoints that have great distance between each other. You know, the ones that make you feel so relieved that you found it and didn't die.
The awkward scenes that your parents walk in on. AC Brotherhood did that to me.

Yup, a lot of things in games piss me off. You'd have to agree that some of these are pretty jimmy rustling material.

Lag and input delays in Fighting games.
Excessive amount of save points.
Streamlined games.
Easy boss battles.
And Capcom.

Invisible walls and excessive cannon fodder. I mean, really. In some of these fantasy games I play, I've pretty much commit one man genocide on weak enemies, like Goblins, after leveling up a bit. Yet they still send me weak goblins to fight.
