~~~~~~~Friendship~~~~~~
-connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection
~~~~~~~~A friend~~~~~~~~

-is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them. Value that is found in friendships is often the result of a friend demonstrating on a consistent basis

LESSON 1 FRIENDSHIP

Friendship, as understood here, is a distinctively personal relationship that is
grounded in a concern on the part of each friend for the welfare of the other,
for the other's sake, and that involves some degree of intimacy. As such, friendship is
undoubtedly central to our lives, in part because the special concern we have for our
friends must have a place within a broader set of concerns, including moral concerns,
and in part because our friends can help shape who we are as persons. Given this centrality
important questions arise concerning the justification of friendship and, in this context
whether it is permissible to “trade up” when someone new comes along, as well as
concerning the possibility of reconciling the demands of friendship with the demands of
morality in cases in which the two seem to conflict.

For this reason, love and friendship often get lumped together as a single topic; nonetheless, there are significant differences between them. Friendship, is essentially a kind of relationship grounded in a particular kind of special concern each has for the other as the person she is; and whereas we must make conceptual room for the idea of unrequited love, unrequited friendship is senseless. Consequently, accounts of friendship tend to understand it not merely as a case of reciprocal love of some form (together with mutual acknowledgment of this love), but as essentially involving significant interactions between the friends—as being in this sense a certain kind of relationship.

In philosophical accounts of friendship, several themes recur consistently, although various accounts differ in precisely how they spell these out. These themes are: mutual caring (or love), intimacy, and shared activity; these will be considered in turn.

1.1 Mutual Caring

To care about something is generally to find it worthwhile or valuable in some way; caring about one's friend is no exception. A central difference among the various accounts of mutual caring is the way in which these accounts understand the kind of evaluation implicit therein. Most accounts understand that evaluation to be a matter of appraisal: we care about our friends at least in part because of the good qualities of their characters that we discover them to have (Annas 1977; Sherman 1987; Whiting 1991); this is in line with the understanding of love as philia or eros given in the first paragraph of Section 1 above. Other accounts, however, understand caring as in part a matter of bestowing value on your beloved: in caring about a friend, we thereby project a kind of intrinsic value onto him; this is in line with the understanding of love as agape given above.

Well students..that;s it for today..if u have any questions feel free to ask..and btw..post here ur thoughts about friendship
Untill next lesson...let's spread some love and make some friends..^__^

Wow interesting lesson! I admit i really learn something new...
For me friendship is an important thing....like R.W Emerson i believe that the meaning of the friendship is not seen in the caring hands neither the kind smile neither the joy of the company: it is in the spiritual inspiration that we feel when we discover that someone believes in us and is willing to trust us blindly!

I wanna share this short story i read in italian on how to maintain friendship...i translated it...

One day a mother and her son were walking on the beach.
At a certain point the child said: “Mother how makes do we maintain friendship?”
The mother watched the son and smiling said to him: “Go and gather some sand.”
The boy obeyed and collected one handful of the sand.
The mother then, always with a smile said : “Now tighten your fist…”
The boy tightened the hand around the sand and saw that, the more he tightened-up,
And the more the sand slipped from his fist.
“Mother, the sand is slipping!…”
“I know beloved… Now you hold your hand completely open…”
The boy obeyed, but a gust of wind blew the remaining sand.
“Still I do not succeed in hold it…”
And the mother, always smiling:
“Now go and gather some more but this time hold it with the your hands open like a spoon...
In this way it is half-close for keeping but also half-open for the freedom ".
The boy tried again, and this time the sand did not escape from the hand and is protected from the wind.
“This is how to make friendship last…"

Definition of friendship
Friendship is defined as an interpersonal relationship between two or more humans or higher intelligent animals which exhibit a mutually helping behavior.

Meaning of a friendship
Being friends is a very important ordeal. Without friends, our daily problems would become distorted and seem hundreds of times worse than what they really are. Friendships help us through our bad times and give us peers to have fun with.

Recipe for friendship
Friendship is one of those things which come natural – something that should not be forced or lied about. When looking for a friend, be yourself. Friends will come. As for after the friendship has evolved, friends help each other and do not lie to each other, except white lies. The most important aspect of a friendship however, is trust.

Friends online
Finding friends online may seem easy, but is more trickier than what it looks. Many "chatters" lie about how they are and act a different way in person. No shows, exaggerations and acting "cool" are all too common amongst internet users.

Ending a friendship
Ending a friendship may be a difficult decision. However, sometimes it is unavoidable. The best way is to tell them in person. Many people believe avoidance is the answer when ending a relationship. However, this is not a good technique in that it leaves broken hearts and anger on both sides.
