Can respect be a bad thing sometimes?

In all honesty, I think he's the only comedian that could be considered a philosopher. Even his quotes. "If you scratch a cynic, you'll find a disappointed idealist." I definitely understand what he meant when he said becoming detached and apathetic helped him form a more realistic view point.

Geez, OP! Did Aretha not teach you anything? Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide But seriously though, lack of respect is what's really bad. You know those people always go around saying they "can't help being cruel" and that it "comes naturally" to them? It outrages me, people like that. Today I overheard some girl in my class saying, "I can be nice if I want to. I hold the door open for people. But that's the extent of my niceness." I do suppose respect can be bad when you're respecting all the wrong people, like serial killers or drug dealers. But then, I don't know. You can respect someone as person, but not necessarily agree with them or condone what they do. So like I said, I'm not really sure if respect can really ever be a negative thing. It's tough to wrap your mind around that question.

For example, respecting a teacher or parent, even though they don't conduct themselves in a respectable manner. It can be exhausting at times to put up with people, but it's all part of the social contract we have as human beings. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Just avoid those people and you won't feel taxed.
