Just a point. People say that without imagination life would be boring. This a label (boring) based on imagination. Without imagination, would you really consider your life boring? Boring is determined by imaginative comparison. If I was a spy, life would be much more interesting, etcetera, thoughts like that. Without imagination you would at least been unable to determine the gap, and therefore not really miss an exciting life. Therefore I would say that lack of imagination, the total lack, is at least ALSO a positive thing.

I think by boring they mean we would still be living in caves since no one would have ever bothered to think of creating tools and inventing stuff, and that seems boring compared to everything that we have today.

But my point is that since we can imagine great things then it's hard for us to imagine an interesting life without it. It's kind of like how I keep using the word "imagine" over and over because, even though I could, it's hard for me to imagine using any other word.

Cuddle: but without imagionation we wouldn't imagine. We might now imagine a life without imagination being boring, but if we didn't have imagination, we wouldn't picture it. Missing something requires imagination. It is not true, as they say, that you can't miss what you have never had. Actually, it's semantics. Strictly speaking you won't miss it, but you might long for it. So I guess it's true, if they are using it in that sense, unless you are talking "miss" like "missing a chance". Anyways, the point is that longing requires imagination, unless it's a physical need of course. An end of imagination might be an end of mental needs. Find nothing interesting, but also finding nothing boring. We are labelling things as "boring" and "interesting" because we have imagination. Without it, nothing would be. You may even call it a vicious circle. We need imagination because we got it. If we didn't have it, we wouldn't need it. In other words: a life without imagination wouldn't be boring, we are labelling it as such because we have it. If the premice is "what would life be without imagination", the answer is: not boring. Because nothing would be. Otherwise we are just using our terms in a world without it.

I understand all that, I was just trying to explain where the people who thought "it would be boring" were coming from.

I think imagination is a brilliant thing, no one should be asamed of having an active, strong imagination. (like myself ^^)
I think that not only does it help relieve stress and provide entertainment when stuck somewhere particularly boring, it also is the reason for many thing we have today, from things as primitive as the wheel, to planes that can go the speed of sound, or to something simple found around the home such as a kettle. We would also not have the art, literature and music that has also shaped todays world.

Imagination is part of us as a race.

Without imagination, we would've invented nothing.
Without imagination, we wouldn't have built anything.
Without imagination, some of the worlds worst bombs and torture techniques would never have been invented.
Without imagination, forms of modern entertainment would be null and void.

Imagination and critical thought are what move us along - Imagine an idea, think about it, devise how to make it work, repeat.
