ups actually not the best
Posted 3/31/08 , edited 4/3/08
I work at UPS and i used to be a loader which means a semi trucks backs into the building and its your job to scan the package and stack it neatly in collums. As you can see the job is very repedative and you have to fill up the whole trailer. on average your supposed to scan 300 packages an hour, and have about 1200 by the end of the night, working part time. and you get bored to the point where you dont care anymore about stacking nice collums. You build a wall halfway and throw everything over, not even paying attention to the boxes marked fragile. In the building I work at this happens al ot. supervisors even tell their employees to throw packages that dont go in the write truck, just to save time. I was wondering if any of you have shipped through UPS and receved things that were broken or not satisfactory. some tips that I can give you is, envelopes and small boxes tend to get lost fairly easy. Do not ever ship electronics because depending on certain ciurcumstances the package can get wet and many loaders just throw them on the floor because their heavy. they feel they can do this because their in the union, and the union rep will go to bat for you. My recomendations of ordering things off line is clothes, since they cant break, also if your shipping something make sure you tape it up really really well,
in short dont ship envelopes or small packages . absolutley no electronics since it could be raining or snowing and they could get wet.
and if your mailing something yourself always tape the hell out of it, i recommend a layer of tape throughout the whole box, that way its waterproof, and it wont break as easily if drooped.
has anyone ever gotten orders from ups broken or lost. if so please explain.

im off to sleep but will answer questions tomorrow, theres acually alot more stuff that goes on in there
peace and good night ...

My mom's company works with UPS. Everything is always satisfactory considering that she sends things overseas.

That's why you should always get insurance. I have not had any trouble with them yet.

I ordered some camera equipment and a telephoto lens and when it arrive at my house, there was a hole about the size of a fist in one of the sides. Luckily there were plastic air "cushions" between my expensive new lens and the hole.

I got a question about the work place, in the UPS you work in are there many Asian's or any at all doing any of the physical labor?
