I am doing an opinion paper for my english class about the world bank, and I am writing about how it is corrupt, but there are also some people who believe it is a good thing. In doing my research, I couldn't find any good actual discussions on this topic, so I decided to post it as a forum on cr. Please post only if you have something that you think will benefit the discussion. For those of you who have absolutely no idea of how the world bank works, I will provide a few sites that you can go to to find info on them. If you know of other sites about the world bank, feel free to post them.

I will provide one site for each side of the argument.

http://www.worldbank.org/
This site is good for getting a general idea of what the world bank does and how it works, though since it is an official world bank site, it strongly favors the world bank.

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0513-04.htm
This site talks about how the world bank is corrupt. If you are interested in learning more about the world bank, you can do research on your own, or if you just want a brief look at both sides of the argument, you can just check out these sites.

To be honest im not sure if this will actually be of any use to you but from what I just read on those websites it seems that this World Bank idea is a pretty terrible thing. The thought of trying to control other countries by way of persuasion is sick. The site that was against this said that they are planning on giving them some "technical support" but in reality they are just trying to smuggle their way into gaining control. It seems that the other countries are getting their sheets pulled over them. If they call this stability in the world economy then the IMF is sick and twisted. This whole "world bank" idea just limits the room of choice for the other countries and increasing the instability of the other countires. This also just widens the gap between the rich and the poor. The higher rates will completely destroy some of the economies that suffer from poverty. I know this doesnt help much but its my biased opinion on the matter. Hope you do well on your report.

they are powerful string pullers who are essentially leaches. they don't work shit. but they do create credit/money out of thin air and inflate every currency they get a hold of. fractional reserve banking = continual inflationary banking. banks, are a form of power. like power and knowledge, they are double edged swords. government is also a double edged sword. the power must be in the right hands with a good system of preventing monopoly, overtaking, corruption.

fuck the banks. why do i have to work to obtain money, while they get to create money, lend it out, and collect interest (and defaulted assets with inherent value)?

Banks in themselves aren't evil. but they sure are a handy tool for evil people to get their hands on.

A World Bank is no different than a Central Bank, it's just freaking bigger.

The Federal Reserve crashed the dollar back in the 1920's just to prove they now controlled America.
(Are we better off then before? No)
America had a great system.
A Gold/Silver monetary system. (You can't crash gold.)
No Federal Taxes. (You kept what you earned)
A Only State/City Banks (

Now we have money that can be printed out of thin air. (It's value merely trusted by faith)
A 16th Amendment that allows Government to place a tax on anything it desires. WITHOUT REGARD.
And a Federal reserve that has always been controlled by nothing but corrupt bankers.

A World Bank give leverage to a one world currency. If this were to happen it can easily lead to a universal monetary crash (much like the USA Stock market crash in the 1920's) at the flick of a switch to force every single person around the world to accept a cashless state of living.
Your ability to Buy Sell and even trade could be monitored by a computer every second of your life. (The technology is available to do so.)

They lend money to countries who need the capital with minimal interest rates. I think the World Bank helps the global market by aiding the industrialized countries grow in productivity. Developing countries too benefit from this organization.

It controls the circulation of money on a grander scale. Without the World Bank, there'd be a crash in the system - a complete and utter chaos.
