Western Animated Series that are up to par with anime
Posted 9/27/07 , edited 9/27/07
Western Animation, more popularly known as cartoons, are sometimes said to have less content than anime.

But surely there are some series out there that can stand proud, no?

For me, that would include Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League:Unlimited, heck, I think any series set in the DC Animated universe can compete with anime.

I would like to know what western animation (TV or otherwise) people think can compete with anime...

One last thing:
If the show you would like to bring up is so obscure that half (maybe more) of us don't know about it, please give at least one image with the title and at least one main character..

Thank you.

Hmm. . .The only one I like that is on par with jap anime is "Avatar the last air bender"

To pass time and just basically have a good laugh will be stuff like, Family guy, Scooby Doo, batman, X-men, ninja turtles. . .But if there is a japanese anime playing at the same time. . .I'll ditch these western animation and go watch the other.

^ I was thinking about those two titles as well. I also remember watching the Spiderman series. There were like 6 or 7 seasons? -- The one ending with the Secret Wars and the Spider Wars sagas.

It depends on what your comparing it too. If your gonna compare it to something like Naruto, then Avatar, Teen Titans, Justice League, and the rest of those DC stuff are around there. If you compare it to something with more substance like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Monster, Mushishi, or something like that then you won't find one. Western animation goes on 'til forever and never has a real ending.
South Park however is good, but I'm excluding comedy completely.

I would consider it a success. They wouldn't have made extra seasons and continued the story if it wasn't popular. I think Reboot was also somewhat popular but probably lost fan-based after a while. I liked the movie though.

Why do you have to compare Western animation to anime? Can't you just enjoy your cartoons individually?

See, topics like this are jsut stupid to me. I'm not trying to sound bigheaded or pompous here, but I've been watching "Looney Tunes" and "Ren & Stimpy" since I was a little child and I probably wouldn't have gotten interested in shows like "Fist of the Norht Star" and "Lupin the III" if I didn't start somewhere. Anime and cartoons are all the same to me. All I'm saying is you shouldn't look to cultural characteristics as a source of entertainment, but rather the individual character of the animation you're watching.

Two different kind of genre more like. Anime for watching a story and American for comedy.

America comic cartoons > Anime on the laugh factor.
