Prayers are the food of the soul, they open the door to Heaven and they lead us to God.

Prayers are like phone calls to God, they surely get the message across.

Prayers are like arrows that pierce through the clouds, they go straight to Heaven with our petitions and desires.

Prayers are the expression of the soul, they are a private conversation between man and God.

Prayers are not only petitions, they are also adoration, praise and thanksgiving.

Pray without ceasing [1Thess 5:17], pray in the Spirit [Eph 6:18]

Pray with your mind, but also pray in the Spirit [1 Cor 14:15]

Pray that our God will give you a Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation as you come to know Him [Eph. 1:17]

Pray for the sick , pray for one another [James 5:14-16]

Luke 22:46 Pray that you don't fall into temptation.

Haha I like how you backed it up with scripture. and great verses to boot. The idea is that we should make time to pray? who is the most important figure in our life? well it should be God, and as such we should at least as a courtesy i see it, let Him know how thankful we are of our salvation. No time to pray? I scoff at the idea. On the way to work/school/on the bus, in class even, i know im not the only one who prayed before a test. The opportunities are there, you just have to be more observant.

I think it was Martin Luther King who said something to the extent of

The shorter your words are in prayer, the more powerful they are.

Most times we don't have an idea how exactly to pray. We don't know how to pray effective prayers.

But we have a need.

And of course, the Lord knows our needs before we approach him for it.

Matthew 6:8
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

and you see 'Do not be like them'. Who's 'them'?

7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Therefore, be simple, concise. Tell him your cares, and give it to him. Then rest well, knowing he has already taken care of it. Know that your intercessor is Jesus, he is the burnt offering, he is the one who gives off the fragrance to God. He is the one who bridge our connections back to God, and He is most definitely the one who will make your prayers perfect when you claim sincerely 'In Jesus' name'.

Plus, prayers needn't be conducted at 6am in the morning in kneeling position in front of an altar with burning incense and wine and bread for at least an hour or 'you miss the appointment'. Sorry. God never takes leave. It's not his job, or an occupation to listen to you. He listens to you because he loves you, like a parent. Parents don't take off days, so feel free to slip a quick prayer even when you're doing really lame stuff, like going to the toilet.

the them that the passage is referring to, look on the middle of the top line is the babbling pagans, and yes you are correct, people have a misconceived notion about prayer, you do not need to be kneeling or need to do it at specific times, the idea is its alone time between you and God. ask for what you need, ask for patience if you lack patience, ask for forgiveness if you have done wrong. I would also include a mind of thanksgiving when coming before the Lord, it never would hurt to tell the Lord how grateful you are of Him, and the things He has done for you. Pray with Sincerity, Pray with Conviction, Pray with Faith in Christ, Pray with Patience, Pray with Humility, Pray with a Loving Heart. Now I say these simple things because your mindset can be off in prayer, you should NOT demand anything of God. And you must be patient to see your prayers through, one of my favorite verses, "Pray without Ceasing"

In Philippians 4:6 it says, Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God. (Basically prayer is simply talking to God just like you would talk to your very best friend.) http://members.tripod.com/~robertwells/howtopray.html

James 1:5-6, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."

Psalm 55:22 Throw every burden upon God.
Psalm 68:19 Blessed be Our God who daily carries the load for us.
Psalm 56:9 This I well know, that God is for me.
