HOW COULD YOU LIKE SHOUJO????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just an opinion, don't be so radical. I mean you like NARUTO, You prefer anime with mindless fights, and stupid characters with no depth or development.

Shoujo is about character development, and well told stories, correct? Rozen Maiden for me. Peace Maker Kurogane as well.. And Elfen Lied (if they are Shoujo, which I have no idea if they are...)

Hmmm arguably all three of the anime you mentioned aren't shoujo. All the difference between shonen and shoujo is the target audience, not whether it is a romance or action or the quality of it's character development.

For example, X and Escaflowne (TV) are both shoujo.

Rozen Maiden and Love Hina are Shonen.

If you're ever unsure as to which audience it is dedicated towards, take a look at who the fanservice is targeted at and the gender of the protaganist. There are exceptions, but those are general clear indicators.

Even though a series like Love Hina is filled with cute things and has a romantic comedy plot, it is obviously targeted at young men.

X and Escaflowne are targeted at a female audience, hence all the bishonen fanservice despite the action and even mecha (in escaflowne). Though the cat girls was a nice shonen touch thrown into a shoujo series for Escaflowne as well.

Rozen Maiden is targeted at basement dwelling child molesters and pedophiles
(Just kidding, I love that show myself, but it is definitly Shonen with a gothic lolita twist).

Some people call anime with a focus on attractive women a bishoujo (literally, "pretty girl") anime, though that often represents anime with pornographic content. I use that term as a sub genre of Shonen in my excessivley detailed personal anime archive for anime like Rozen Maiden, Mahoroba, and Chobits (which I do consider Shonen, though that is very debatable).

The term Harem is also used for the situation where a guy is surrounded by an large group of attractive young women, though not all shonen romantic anime is necessarily in this format (though a great deal of it is).

I got into anime for the dark edgy Sci Fi like Akira and GITS, but I stayed for shoujo and bishoujo. Alot of Shonen is mindless action, but there are some gems like NGE and Berserk that stand out for balancing character development, plot along with action.

All I can say Sacrificed21 is you'll appreciate alot of the more complex anime when you're older, as well as enjoy a broader selection of it. I'd have hated something like Card Captor Sakura at 13 and would have worshiped Naruto but now Naruto is like nails on a chalkboard to me and I adore Card Captor Sakura.

You may not think it, but you will (hopefully) get tired of formulaic Shonen action someday. That's why most of us anime veterans won't touch Naruto with a ten foot pole - we've already seen it in numerous forms.

I always laughed at "pretty boy" anime as I would call it. I felt mature and manly watching my GTO, genshiken, and Prince of Tennis(no laughing, it made me feel manly). While some of my manly animes were good, even great, I felt them getting in a rut. Characters and plot lines seemed to hop back and forth between series. It seemed like I was watching the same show but with altered names and artists.

Desperate for a change I succumbed to a dear friend's suggestion and tried Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge and Ouran High School Host Club. It turns out no other animes have ever made me laugh out loud so hard. The stereotypes and plots are a breath of fresh air. If it weren't for the insane first scene of yamato nadeshiko(I hate ugly girls) I think the shower scene in the OP would have scared me away.

I now proudly call myself a shoujo fan and actively look for other shoujo shows to watch.

I actually prefer a female main character in shoujo. Every time it's a guy, they always open the cliché closet and make him a skinny timid little bitch that all the girls fall for. That really pisses me off, at least when it's a girl they can shake up the storyline a little.

In the shoujo I'm watching, they have female main characters, but the prince characters seem to get a lot of camera time and really out-shine the female. I don't mind this approach. Since the major audience of shoujo is young females, a young female will naturally be the main character. In reality you're the main character of your life, but you don't really appear too often, it's all about your point of view. Of course the people of your desires and hatred get plenty of camera time cause they're the ones you focus on.

But then again, is main character defined by PoV or by camera time?

What's wrong shounen? Its just like shoujo but one with a guy? I felt that most shounen mangas have better story line and I like the art work better than most shoujo even though I do read shoujo myself! I think they have thier own style for readers...so don't hate shounen just cos some people are not into it....They're drawn by women artiest anyways...
