Didn't see a thread about this so... Geneon's parent company was trying to make a deal with adv to have them take over distribution of their anime series. However the deal went through. This affects you if you were collecting Geneon's series as there is a chance your series will never finish being released in the US.

I think its a pretty safe bet Hellsing Ultimate will be picked up by another company but other series are prolly up for grabs :(

This is the 3rd largest anime company in the US, strange that things would happen so suddenly like this.

Does this mean we'll once again be able to upload their series to CR soon????

If so I could reupload Lupin III series 2 which was much better than the first series!

I have not seen news about their licenses which is different from distribution. They can still hold the license for something and still not actually release DVDs for it. (Or release it in Japan and then charge crazy import prices for them to come to the US). I'm not sure if its in the link I provided previously but its my understanding that there are only plans to release volumes that have a release date before November 6th.

There is also the issue that they were the ones distributing Bandai's titles in the US so now we've got to wonder how this will affect Bandai's release schedule.

No, this does not mean that their licenses expired. They still have the licensed they'll just get distributed through another company.

This is what is call the business world. . .regarding license work? Just like Suicider said, if they still hold it and hasn't expire? We can't do much about it.

On the surface: Deal with ADV not going through = oops, there goes plan A for Geneon USA. Now they're resorting to cutting costs, in the form of employees/departments.

Under the surface: They could be suffering a lot more than we think they are, maybe to the point of going broke. Course of action would probably be to pull out of the US market. If this is the case, who knows what they'll do with their licensed work.

Or maybe they're just restructuring/redesigning their business model, like they claim to be (by "focus[ing] on their portfolio"). If this the case, they'll just find new distributors in the US to sell their licensed work. Or maybe they'll just exclusively distribute in Japan to increase the relative value of their products in the form of expensive imports.

Essentially this hurts DVD buyers who are currently collecting unfinished sets distributed by Geneon USA the most.

Geneon still owns their property, it's just a matter of what they're gonna do with it. Best case scenario I could probably see is them selling licenses to smaller companies who don't go to similar lengths to prevent uploading onto CR. But even then, that'd probably boil down to an ethical thing for the moderators who have the final say in what stays and goes.

Yeah, they've already laid off staff when they were "finalizing" the deal with ADV. I think its the marketing division thats been laid off. The problem is except for a few titles they don't have really high sellers. As for someone else taking over their catalog I don't see how that would happen. The next big company with the money for it would be Funimation and they are enough of a powerhouse not to need Geneon USAs titles.

I get the feeling its either going to be Dentsu (Geneon USA parent company) releasing in Japan and we pay import or Geneon USA has a garage sale and U.S. companies pick and choose among the titles they want to purchase.

I'm getting the feeling I better go out and buy the Fate/Stay Night set I've been putting off buying

In australia we have madman... our only distributor, they just steal anime from american companies with the dubs (they do no work at all!). I'm sure they turn a profit.

Although Geneon is basically going to be dead in N.A., Geneon would still be able to acquire, license and produce anime in North America, everything else would be handled by ADV so NO UPLOADING!!

Edit: Oh and something to explain it better:
