Ok, tell us about your first day in kenjutsu lessons.

Awkward. In every way. Everything from holding the sword to standing properly. I didn't know half the words the instructor was shouting, so I had to watch everyone around me.

The footwork was the hardest, standing was hard too.

However I learned quickly and overcame these difficulties in a week or two.

The only thing now, after nearly 7 years, that I find a pain in the arse is suburi and taebaki. It's not the swinging of the sword, but the footwork with is hard especially on hard wood or tatami. It hurts like a ****

Now for my Jujutsu class (which is the same dojo and instructor but a different day; Kenjutsu was Friday and Jujutsu was Monday,) it was a pain as well. Footwork and standing, balance practice and... the dreaded breakfalling on a hard mat... It sucked for everyone.

Well as they say; no pain, no gain. Or rather my favorite; Pain is the best instructor, yet no one wants to go to his class.

Was there ever any punishments that you hated;
because u messed up or something

Oh definitely. If we were disrespectful, the instructor had us do suburi over and over.

You use a bokken or suburito and cut over and over and over again.

Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29H9ZOShWnk

Though that's kendo suburi. Kenjutsu suburi is a bit harder.

Well archery is an interesting art. I am by no means an authority on it and hold only an amateur's perspective to the art.
I would love to try Kyudo, Japanese Archery.

In archery there is the physical side and the philosophical side.
On the physical side, there is the matter of trajectory, force, and resistance which must be understood.

On the philosophical side, there is a far deeper subject to delve into.
I know that to the Kyudoka, a marksman aims not at the target but yet at himself. Metaphorically of course.

Or to quote Northern Exposure in jest;

In Kyudo philosophy, you don't aim--you become one with the target. Then, in fact, there's nothing to aim at. I find it works well with women, too. Give it a try.

Not traditional archery but it's something to look into. Something is always better than nothing.

I'm not sure if this program applies to you seeing as I don't know your age. I'm under the impression that you're 14 years old (if rooster really is your sign) so you can probably call and ask for more details. If they can offer the program in your area, I suggest setting up an appointment with your schools Principal or a Vice Principal before school actually starts. If you have friends interested, provide their names as well. They might make you fund raise or something but if you're really interested that shouldn't be a problem. Look around on the internet, maybe you'll find something.

Oh and, it doesnt matter if your age there is wrong or right. If you'd like to delete this post, that is completely up to you. If you just want to edit out that bit about your age, thats fine too. I just dont want to put you in an uncomfortable spot.

On the subject of archery, how far are they capable of shooting? Is it the same as the yumi or do they use something similar/different? 'cause the yumi shoots around 50m? 100m? is that considered far? I apologies for my ignorance...i have no measure of distance >.<
