Dunno if this was posted but this book had an interesting view on time travel.

Yea your quite right. I was endorsing A theory and presentism, although I realized that modern physics does not quite look at the world this way, I had not looked at their views critically. Plus its perfectly intelligible for me to think about the world that way in my day to day life.

A theory looks at the world as having 3 dimesions of space + time. Its more modern to view time as a dimension rather then some extra thing. So, now I'm more aware the the differing views, and I suppose that physics is likely the best bet, but that still leaves me quite confused as to what sense the present and the past coexist.

That video was too pop-sci/phl for my liking.

I tried and I tried but I still have difficulty picturing time as a dimension And according to the string theory (comeplete BS) there ar more than eleven dimensions, but we just know 4 (including time ) I just dont think its possible but then I am not as smart as a physicist so I dont know.

I think that if all people had access to time travel we would destroy the earth. That's just what we do. With that kind of power someone would decide to try and control everybody and we would end up destroying the world.
I hope that if there is the possibility to travel in time it never reaches the wrong hands.

to ever be able to travel through time would hurt the human society even more. the fact of the matter is everything done effects thing in the future however big or small.
ex. you go back in time to say goodbye to a loved one before they die, innocent enough. if this loved on is in the hospital from some illness they misht not take it so lightly. they break the window then you leave in tears. a nurse comes in to see what was the matter and gets a cut from it on her hand trying to clean it up. the next day she goes on a vacation in mexico. she was ment to have a child in a year who would later father the next big poet who would inspire someone long after death to be a docter and save the life of someone who...(you get that part) well this nurse gets sick from something infectous through the cut and dies....no more child no more poet no more doctor and hundreds of other lives lost becuse of it.
their are millions ofother variations of this sort of thing. basicly being able to go through time is bad. and i would never do it.

Click on the swirling numbers at the right and knock yourself out. I suppose 5 is a kind of linear potentiality, while 6 is an instant potentiality. 7 is all of our potentialities considered as one. Uh, yea best I can put it succinctly. http://tenthdimension.com/flash2.php

Back to the 4th dimension for a bit. I suppose it helps to consider the all 4 dimensions as the space-time continuum (as its called) rather then just adding a dimension to 3dimensional space. Time is could only be called space in the sense of being one dimensional (a line). Don't think time line, think space line. Don't think time, just think sequence of events. Simply, we are not extended in 3d+t, but 4d(+). Tada, now it should be possible to move though time, not just have our 3d move though time. Just trying to help, as I'm not sure I understand it myself, as I doubt I will get it unless I get Einsteins special/general relativity. So, this may clear up some things, but I don't see how it gets at the important concept of existence, which I get to bellow.

One quick thing before that. It is helpful to give an example due to this shift in understanding. Time is needed for things to change, right? Well, imagine a nail good on one end, but progressively rusting towards the other end. We could reasonably say that the nail changes, but over space.

As far as presentism vs eternalism/block time, I wonder how much of it is a real distinction. Note the eternalist view: "Objects from the past and future have equal ontological status with present objects. ... Whether or not the dodo bird and the baby sparrow are present is irrelevant ontologically; they simply aren't in our spacetime region right now." When, I talk about existing I mean exactly that which is here and now, not just what is or will be (potentially or not). The other side seems to talk about existing as whatever is was or will be. Thus, I could talk about existence as here-now and that would be fine as long as they understood that, and use a different term for everything or just non-herenow. The real difference lies in if we can come to agreement on what it means to talk about "here and now". However, there does seem to be some serious difficulties with the present. I suppose my view at the moment is that it does not makes sense to say that there is a present, but we may create one for our purposes. Bah, who knows, or maybe the scientific theorizing is mistaken on some fundamental metaphysical truth (similar to God eh?).

To time travel one must be able to bend space and time, We can not generate the power nor that gravity needed to do this. The silly thing about going faster then light is also impossible.

In turn we can not time travel...It is real but unproven and with our current understanding of the universe (Plus we still havent masterd Nuclear fusion witch would be a grate step in the right direction) and knoledge of physics make time travel impossible for now and maybe forever.

EDIT:

Also, The universe is for now expanding and with it continues time and the growth of space. If we where to corrupt or damge this very delicate process would equal the end of time and space BUT time can not stop but it can continue and restart, What I am posting about is the BIG CRUNCH, It is the opposite of the Big Ban and would crush every thing in its structure and when done it will restart with the Big Ban and time would restart from scratch with the Gases and Atoms taken from the previouse universe to build the blocks that create life, meaning that our so called God may just have been some DNA that was left of a previouse universe that created us and as there say God created man in his own image yet doesent say the means of how it done that.

Black holes are rips in time due to gravity being so powerfull after a very big star exploded and its core started crushing it self making its gravity stronger and more inward until it rips time, The black hole will absorb matter and then after it can no longer grow and eat any more matter it will close and time for that area will return to normal.

If I had the chance to go back in the past, I’d go when my dad was still healthy and remind him to take care of his body so that he’ll not going to die early.

But the thought of finally having a ‘Time Machine scares me. The movie Sound of a Thunder may explain why.

I'll go with the "hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy" theory. That if time travel were possible, nothing would actually change, because it was all pre-destined. No matter what you do, the outcome of events that happen later in history will remain the same.

I like to believe this because it makes things simple

I think time travel is the stupidest idea... its fun for movies and games and what not but.... in reality its death waiting to happen. If I inveted a time machine tho... I'd probably make sure I never met my X.... Are we talking Terminator time travel where its only you going through or can I take something with me say money... a weapon or technology? Am I going in a souped up Delorian? Using 1.21 Jigawats of electricity?

It seriously depends on what theory (or collection) of time travel and it's causal effects you're running off of. There are far to many variables to ascertain a direct answer to the question on an overall scale.

I would just leave it alone in terms of the past. But the future is no-holds-barred. You technically can't screw up the future because it hasn't happened yet from your perspective. So I'd go and snag me a copy of that Sports Almanac (compliments Michael J. Fox) and set myself up for life.

Yes, I would use it for my own personal gain without regard to the knowledge I could reap and how it could help current-day humanity. I like money. And cool gadgets. And the future can get me both.
