Time travel would cause the universe to collapse in on itself. There would paradoxes within paradoxes within paradoxes on into infinity. It boggles the mind.

way too lazy to read it all, so if this point has been made, just ignore it.

i call it the Terminator Paradox. i think on time travel a lot. there are a lot of cheesy time travel movies and stories and stuff, but some come up with some nice little ideas. terminator is one of them.

in terminator 1, kyle reese goes back in time, find sarah, and bangs her something fierce. their coupling creates john connor. john connor grows up, mostly without his mother, and learns to be self-sufficient and fight due to her, and kyle's teachings. he then meets his wife, whom he has a child with, and when that child is killed off, he goes nuts and starts the resistance, his destiny...and he find kyle reese as a young boy, whom he saves and basically raises as a son (kyle happens to be about 25 at the time of terminator 1, where john is somewhere around 40, if i am not mistaken). kyle is given the picture of sarah, with whom he falls in love and asks to be the one to go back in time to help her. now john knows this is his father, and knows he will die, but must send him back in order for his secondary timeline self to exist (assuming james cameron went with the infinite timeline idea, rather than the singular). kyle has sex, john is born, whole thing repeats...

now, logic says that this cannot exist, as there has to be a first john connor, who is not the son of kyle reese, int he very first timeline. if there was no connor, there would be no reese. and no reese equals no connor. the Terminator Paradox. you need an alpha and omega, a first and a last in a timeline, and with affecting timelines, such as this, it is logically impossible.

another problem with time travel, is whether or not the infinite universe theory ties in. if it is true, then at any given moment in time, EVERYTHING has happened or is happening. every possibility. there is no end to it, there is infinite. if this is the case, then if you went back in time and bitchslapped caesar, it may have an adverse effect on all futures...or all pasts...or the universe itself. or it could have no effect. or perhaps there is no past, as that time exists within a seperate "dimension", where we are not future, they are present, and past is entirely different. the paradoxes are innumerable with time travel. to get over a single one would be such an amazing accomplishment, we could very well call ourself (our species in general) God...we would have absolute control over creation. if we so wished, we could go to the beginning of creation and cease its existence.

time travel is possible in theory, however, in practice has too many variables and entirely unknown factors (there is a difference here. a variable can only be one of a set number of things. 19a+13b= c means a,b,c can ONLY be some certain numbers. there are so many numbers, but they will be numbers, they can never be zebra. an unknown is COMPLETELY out in the open)

Everything keeps looping back to that damned superstring theory~

((Which, I'm a fan of.))

travel back in time kill your grandfather hmmmmmm maybe not so violent as actually killing a past member but rather just delaying the meeting of your parents or possibly having them meet different spouses so you wouldn't be born to the same ppl or maybe you would be born the same but different family who knows but if you did return to the present the current you would be different as for time travel i always think it'd be nice to be able to change what i know now so i'd be different today who knows thats a bit vague, but going back in time itself is meaningless unless you have a comfortable means of living and travel...

I saw a Matt Damon film about Time Machine (Sorry i forgot the title). He saw his future, he'll going to die, and to stop that to happen, he made an excellent escape from death before he travelled back.

I would bring technologie to the cavemen and tell them how to make it work!!

whoot! there's a topic like this! i just saw De Ja Vu in the cinema, amazing plot, but the technological side of it confudled me. they said something about folding time (like warp space?) or something like that, and they can see everything!!!!

I think of it like this. Anything with moving particles is traveling through time. The faster you move the faster time flows for you. Similarly the slower you move the slower time flows. When a person is cryogenically frozen and reach a temperature at or near absolute 0, time stops for them. This is so since they are completely still, not a single cell is moving.

I don't think traveling to the past is possible, especially not in any practical way.

Ya, there is a practicle way. You could bring modern technologie to the cavmen and explane it to them.

Then go back to the futur and see the real futristic world you have created!!

You kind of have it backwards. Increase in speed is inversely proportional to time

I don't think it's possible.

Can some one answer this please........How can you travel to the past or future without any connection ( Ties or whatever ) to either ?

We all know in order to time travel, we need to find a way to control time.............any thoughts on that ?

i think it's possible, I just don't think the current human state can handle
the strain of shifting through time...
meat bags like us aren't meant for that... lol

well if my memory serves me correctly, the great albert einstein believed in time travel.
He believed after the speed of light time itself actually stops, which explains the whole "star trek warp thingy" i guess. But if that is true and we are able to manipulate the speed of light, would we be able to transfer ourselves through to that speed intact...

if ever we do accomplish this feat, I would not want to be the first test subjects..
i dont think it'd be a very "clean" experiment.
