I personally am boycotting the beijing 2008 olympics because of china's invovlment in sudan, and its violation of human rights in china especially tibet. theres genocied going on in tibet by the chinese govt. china should be making progress towards developing better human rights and prove that it is worthy of hosting the olympics but instead the opposite is happening. The chinese recently made new rules stating that all reincarnated lamas in tibet must have government approval..they are also cracking down on aids/hiv activist because they dont want international media attention on the issue especially with the olympics coming up.
in august two Students for a Free Tibet activist got arrested in Beijing for BLOGGING against the Chinese govt.'s actions.

many human rights activist including my self are calling the '08 olympics the "genocide" or "bloody" olympics..and i think more people need to start realizing how serious these issues are..

why? the 08 Olympics hasn't nothing to do with whats happening in africa, you're taking politics and mixing it with an event about athletes competing to be the best, anyway, the chinese government have promise to send 300 military engineers to help international peacekeeping forces in Darfur.
Im glad that many people don't think the same as you.

boycotting the beijing 2008 olympics is the last thing the world wants to do.
The chinese government spend more than 160 billion dollar on the 08 Olympics, and you want to boycott that for what's happening in darfur, which i might add was partly caused by the europeans.
You never know, boycotting the Olympics might anger China, which in turn will do everything possible to piss off the westerns, like helping iran and north korean with their nuclear developments, veto anything that might help piss off the westerns nations, etc..
A country with more than 1.3 billion people, and being able to satisfied the people is a very hard job to do.
Human Rights? hmm, which would you choose? Having food to eat, and a house over your head, or a thing called human rights, which will protect your rights, but won't feed you or your family?
Anyways, as china becomes more capitalism, human rights will improve, as of now, with 1.3 billion people, i don't think the chinese people worry about their human rights more than being about to have food and a house.
I don't get why people mix politics with stuff like the Olympics, its so dumb.

Its sad, but most of the world doesn't care. (no money to be made by going in Danfur)

Its a shame that we can't get together and change the world anymore.

I know that genocide is happening in other countries and for that I am also very sad, but I have read accounts of Darfur and they have all horrified me beyond belief. I think that the African Union is totally useless and for the most part good for nothing in the matter of keeping the peace. I also believe that America and other prominate countries should get more involved in this issue for is a horrific episode that is happening and if the major powers do not step in and make a difference, then nothing will change in this country. Other countries take follow the led of the U.S., France, U.K., and China but I truelly think that they do not care enough yet or that they are wasting too much time talking it through, the action needs to be now but I do not think that that is happening.
I expecially hate how the government is totally corrupt there and are paying the Janjaweed, I really really hate the reason for the killings.

I don't this the US is any position to go any further with "saving" people, especially due the fact the US economy is failing.. and we really.. can't be spending any more money... or this country is sure to go down.

I know, America is on a decline but if we go through (at the very least) the mimimal option for helping this country then others like Italy, Canada, Mexico, or even Germany would also step in. It would also be more likely that the United Nations would care more about this issue and extend more of a helping hand (I know they already are) if America took this stance since the U.S. and China are some of the leading powers in that body.

My personal opinion is that America is already going down and if we do fail economically, expecially since we are only thriving as much as we are because of loans from other countries, we might as well go down with a bang, "saving" people from a genocide. But, unfortunately, this is unresonable, for America will always put herself first.

There are more people in the US than Darfur. If we go down so do the lives of US citizens. Not getting into any war will most likely make this country last a little longer, enough for me to be able to move out of this country. UK and etc. can handle that stuff without us..

This doesn't make any sense. They're fighting over LAND!!!

I just learned this a couple of days ago and it's been going on for FIVE YEARS! How many people have died? Over a hundred million?

I don't understand how people believe one is better than the other. Everyone is EQUAL. E-Q-U-A-L They all start as an infant, mature, and then become adults. EVERYONE starts like that, therefore, we are all the same!

Humans let their selfishness overcome them sometimes that it's just too much. It starts as mean words and then it can go on to a neverending war!!! I can never understand us humans.

Sorry... I'm really frustrated about the fact that humans don't realize their wrongdoings.

just a bunch of racist arabs picking on the poor africans, its pretty messed up. no one is having a good time over there, so why don't we just knock them all out?

and while we're at it lets go nuke tibet......just for fun

lol we were asked by a newspaper the other day about our opinions on darfur, and my friend said "i don't really give a shit what they do" and i said "fuck, just nuke em'"

i think they were hoping for some better responses, but i thought it was pretty funny

We need to stop fighting off violence with violence.

So we should just try and give them a hug while they're shooting at us? Some people will only obey once they've been subdued through violence.
