....It amazes me as to how many people are unaware of the REAL situation in Darfur, Sudan. (O.o")

Ever since February of 2003, 400,000 non-Arab Sudanese have already died in the hands of the Janjaweed and the Sudanese militia. 2.5 million people are now displaced. about 5,000 people die a month from starvation/malnutrition alone. More than 100 villages have been burned down. Majority of the women and girls are gang raped, and these women are mostly circumcised, can you imagine how dreadfully painful that is for them? Having not just one d^&k penetrate but a multitude of d&^ks.. The children are burnt to death. They put bloody corpses down the wells to poison the water. The U.S is just one out of 4 active supporters (Rwanda, Nigeria, South Africa)to stop the genocide in Darfur. There has been about 3 failed attempts for a peace settlement. The UN troops would be deployed by the end of 2009, by that time, who knows how many have died. (>.<") The most current news is that a Sudanese aircraft bombed a small school in Darfur, and 13 were blown to pieces.

Stop pitying these people. Pity would do nothing to help them. STFU with all your why is no one helping crap. Why do we have to rely on others to help them? When we ourselves have the ability to do so?We don't need a bloody war to stop it, all we need is a freaking peace settlement, but that's quite impossible, since hundreds of millions of people remain indifferent and ignorant about it.

Bloody hell. Majority are so bloody clueless to what is really happening to certain parts of the world.

We need to stop fighting off violence with violence.

So we should just try and give them a hug while they're shooting at us? Some people will only obey once they've been subdued through violence.

I disagree with you. Sure maybe they'll be very obedient for some time, but once you fight to make peace, that people will never be your ally. They'll stab you in the back as soon as they get the chance. Why? Well people are vengeful, and you've just killed their family and friends so as long as a conflict turns violent the path to peace is a FAR WAY OFF.

I don't suggest one should go and hug people with whom one have disagreances, but hey, compromise isn't that awful. Diplomatic means may take longer time on paper, but I find that in reality it's still the fastest way to peace still.

Its sad, but most of the world doesn't care. (no money to be made by going in Danfur)

Its a shame that we can't get together and change the world anymore.

you hit the right spot there... why would another country -- the usa for example -- spent billions of dollars to solve a conflict that's not theirs? but iraq couldn't be attacked fast enough... because they got oil

like a few ppl have mentioned already, what's going on there are mostly raids by barbarians on horses, or uncoördinated counter attacks by a poorly equipped soudan government. armies of any european / asian / european country would be able to defeat them easily, and stop the conflict. so why don't they? because:
- there is nothing to gain by engaging in such a war, it only costs money
- once they would turn their back, fighting would just continue...

it's sad, but I don't think an intervention is an appropriate solution here. what is a solution then? idk...
try to imagine the situation of these ppl:
you live in a desert, there is sand stuck in your ass and you don't have a shower, nor electricity to power your nintendo wii... well, I know I would be pissed and grab a gun after the slightest provocation...
